On September 20th, Elio Morelli left us suddenly, at the age of just 37.
Elio was a brother in the struggle and in life. Active from a young age,he took part in countless initiatives over the past twenty years, in
Asti and beyond: from student protests to housing protests, from
initiatives in favor of self-managed spaces to anti-fascist initiatives.
A determined and passionate anarchist comrade, Elio was present until
the end, recently fighting against the ongoing genocide in Gaza, despite
the health problems that had plagued him over the past year. On April
25th, recovering from a serious knee injury, he still wanted to
participate in the afternoon march he had helped organize, sitting in
the lead van, cheerful as always and, at the same time, firm in his
convictions of freedom and equality that had always driven him to fight
against this world of brutal exploitation, war, murderous borders, and
the ruthless domination of man over man and man over nature. Elio was a
generous, attentive, and loyal friend, a lover of life, nature, and the
joys of play and celebration. This is how we want to remember him: with
a smile on his face, moshing and dancing at concerts and squats,
wandering with Enkidu through the woods, among his hills, or by the
fire, in the company of all those who loved him for those qualities that
made him unique and special. Elio was an imaginative cook, a cheerful,
creative, and sensitive person, gifted with great intelligence, depth of
feeling, and a sense of humor. He loved to travel, both physically and
with his fervent and powerful imagination. Driven by the desire to
express his wonderful inner world, he wrote stories and poems, made
videos, painted, played music, and self-produced a wide variety of
objects and machines. His death leaves an immense pain in the hearts of
all who had the privilege of knowing him and an unfillable void in our
movement. We will never forget you, Elio. We will continue to carry in
our hearts all your love, all your anger, all your joy for living and
fighting. May the wonderful world you carried within you warm us in this
long night and illuminate better days.
