In August, an aide to Eric Adams admitted to orchestrating a straw donor scheme in which he convinced a local Uzbek businessman, Tolib Mansurov, to donate thousands of dollars to the Adams campaign through his employees, who he later reimbursed.
Tuesday, that low-level functionary, Mohamed Bahi, was back in federal court, where he was sentenced to three years’ probation, including one year in home detention.
And where was Mayor Adams? He was getting ready to jet off to…Uzbekistan.
The case of the missing mayor was very much clocked by the federal judge in the case, Dale Ho, who was forced to dismiss Adams' campaign finance fraud case once the Trump Justice Department abandoned it after Adams promised fealty to the administration.
"There's a notable absence here of the person at the apex of the pyramid," Judge Ho remarked.
New York City Comptroller Brad Lander is seeking a federal trial for a charge he was hit with during an act of civil disobedience against immigration agents inside 26 Federal Plaza in September — rejecting an offer to drop the case.
Owners and managers of subsidized, all-affordable buildings — which are not only rent regulated but required to rent to people with low incomes at low rates — are increasingly having a tough time of it, according to two new reports. And they worry that Mayor-elect Mamdani’s proposed rent freeze will make matters worse.
