The slogan 'All Cops Are Bastards' is a provocative one. The phrase was popularised in the 70s by the punk music scene, but its origins stem from the British labour movement of the 1940s. Striking workers are said to have hurled the phrase at police as they defended their picket lines from charging coppers. ---- Today, the slogan is most closely associated with the struggle against white supremacy, particularly in the United States. Its usage exploded after the murder of George Floyd, and its infamous acronym-ACAB-has come to embody anti-police sentiment around the world.
