Daar is ie dan, de grootste titel die men in Nederland kan halen.. echt een euforisch moment!! Hugo Van Houten heeft In de finale tegen Ameer Baksh, die eerder al een 6reds NK titel op zijn naam schreef..

uiteindelijk 6-1 gewonnen met 2 breaks van 50+ en 2 van 90+

Allereerst bedankt Hugo Van Houten Sebas Kan en Arya, voor de goede verzorging van de livestream met commentaar! Ook bedankt aan René Stuten en Westend voor de toernooi-organisatie!

En uiteraard bedankt hij alle lieve mensen en de fijne steun die hij van iedereen heeft mogen ontvangen.

Bij deze zijn verhaal :)

Zijn naam is Hugo van Houten, 19 jaar en oorspronkelijk is hij afkomstig uit NL. Sinds een half jaar is hij verhuisd naar België vanwege zijn. sport, snooker. 

Dat begon al vanaf zijn 7e. 12 jaar inmiddels speelt hij al snooker en inmiddels beoefen hij zijn  sport dagelijks. 

Zijn coach Danny Moermans (tevens oude coach van Luca Brecel en Julien Leclerq) woont in Hasselt. Vanuit NL moesten zijn vader en Hugo  1x per 2 weken op en neer rijden voor zijn training. Toen had hij al zoiets van, hoe makkelijk zou het zijn als hij ook in Hasselt zou wonen.. 

Vanaf dat moment is hij begonnen met het oriënteren en uiteindelijk de stap gezet om definitief te emigreren naar Hasselt, België. Inmiddels traint hij c.a. 40 uur per week en reist hij ook internationaal voor Europese en Wereld kampioenschappen om via die route hopelijk een prof-ticket te bemachtigen waardoor hij bij de top van de wereld sta. 

Is dat een haalbaar doel? Als je kijkt naar zijn behaalde resultaten: MVP (Most Valuable Player) competitie Eredivisie 2025, winnaar Haags Open 2024, heel 2025 nr 1 van NL (alle leeftijden), kwartfinalist op het EK in Bosnië in 2024 is het uiteindelijke doel om prof te worden zeker niet onrealistisch.. 

Ook nog erbij te vermelden dat hij zondag 12 april jongstleden  het NK heeft gewonnen! (Grootste toernooi van NL). Daardoor staat hij nu op  nummer 1 van de ranking en kan je dus gerust zeggen dat hij de beste snookerspeler is van NL. En dat op 19 jarige leeftijd..

Echter vraagt het financieel natuurlijk ook een hele hoop om constant te reizen en toernooien af te gaan.. Hiervoor is hij fanatiek op zoek naar mensen/bedrijven die in zijn verhaal geloven en samen met hem naar de top willen gaan. There it is, the biggest title you can win in the Netherlands... truly a euphoric moment!! In the final against Ameer Baksh, who had previously won a 6-red Dutch Championship title...

Here is his story :)

His name is Hugo van Houten, 19 years old, and he is originally from the Netherlands. Six months ago, he moved to Belgium for his sport, snooker.

He started playing when he was 7. He has been playing snooker for 12 years now and currently practices his sport daily.

His coach, Danny Moermans (who also used to coach Luca Brecel and Julien Leclerq), lives in Hasselt. From the Netherlands, Hugo and his father had to drive back and forth once every two weeks for his training. Back then, he already thought, “How much easier it would be if I lived in Hasselt too…”

From that moment on, he began exploring his options and eventually took the step to permanently relocate to Hasselt, Belgium. He now trains approximately 40 hours a week and also travels internationally for European and World Championships, hoping to secure a professional contract through that route, which would place him among the world’s elite.

Is that a realistic goal? Considering his achievements—MVP (Most Valuable Player) of the 2025 Eredivisie league, winner of the 2024 Hague Open, ranked No. 1 in the Netherlands (all ages) throughout 2025, and a quarterfinalist at the 2024 European Championships in Bosnia—his ultimate goal of turning pro is certainly not unrealistic.

It’s also worth mentioning that he won the Dutch National Championship on Sunday, April 12! (The biggest tournament in the Netherlands). As a result, he is now ranked number 1, so you can safely say he is the best snooker player in the Netherlands. And all this at the age of 19..
