🇧🇪 🇳🇱

Hallo Toots!

Tot snel bij Toots!

🇬🇧  Hello from Toots!

Hello from Toots,

What a week lies ahead, following a absolutely brilliant jazz weekend! 🔥 With a heartfelt thought for the great Sonny Rollins — a giant among giants — who has left us at the venerable age of 95, having been one of the greatest pioneers and ambassadors of this music we hold so dear. 🎷

We kick things off on Wednesday with the brilliant Wajdi Riahi for the jam session.

On Thursday, following the piano bar with Simon Groppe, our house orchestra turns its attention to the mischievous and swinging repertoire of the great Clark Terry. 🎺

Friday brings us one of the finest pianists on the European scene, here to present the world première of his new project — in which, for the very first time, he plays Fender Rhodes alongside the piano. Baptiste Trotignon is joined for the occasion by two outstanding musicians: drummer Raphaël Pannier and bassist Jérôme Regard, consummate technicians for a brand new repertoire straddling the boundaries of jazz and pop. A world exclusive at Toots, no less! 🌍 The late jam follows with our tireless Marek Patrman.

Saturday brings another unmissable encounter with one of the most underrated musicians in the world, despite extraordinary talent and an impressive list of collaborations. Plume comes to us in quartet format, and it was undoubtedly one of the greatest concert revelations I ever experienced when I first discovered him in Paris some ten years ago. Do not miss this one. ✨ Gaspard Sicx will open the late jam, otherwise known as "the hippest nights in Brussels."

Sunday afternoon, we pay tribute to the great Herbie Hancock with Arnaud Guichard's group, joined by nearly the entire team from the group Echt! It promises to be something rather special. 🎹

And to round things off in style, Sunday and Monday evenings bring an exceptional concert with the magnificent Wayne Escoffery. 🌟 One of the most significant tenor saxophonists of his generation, a member of the Mingus Big Band and a professor at Yale. A sound to shake the walls, an energy that could power the whole of Brussels — two evenings not to be missed, leading his European quartet alongside Fred Nardin, Romain Sarron and Jasen Weaver.

As a bonus, we're delighted to announce the forthcoming visit of a true New Orleans drumming legend — quite possibly one of the finest in the history of the genre: Herlin Riley will be with us on the 4th of June. 🥁

A reminder that we sell five-concert passes on our website — now might well be the perfect moment to snap one up!

Our thick walls keep the club wonderfully cool, and our bar is fully stocked with refreshments, alcoholic and otherwise, to help you weather the heatwave. 🧊🍹

See you soon at Toots!

JUKE NIGHT SPECIAL CLARK TERRY - Swing
jeudi 28 mai - 20:30
Jean-Paul Estievenart (trp) ; Mathieu Najean (sax) ; Wouter Van den Broeck (p) ; Victor Foulon (b) ; Matthias De Waele (dr)

This year, for our monthly Juke Nights, the house band led by Mathieu Najean pays tribute, at each concert, to a great figure of the Swing Era. A perfect opportunity to discover or rediscover a rich repertoire that was once the most popular music of the 1930s and 1940s.

For this edition, the spotlight falls on one of the most distinctive, most beloved and most inventive trumpeters in the history of jazz: Clark Terry.

Having played with the orchestras of Count Basie and Duke Ellington, and a great stylist with an instantly recognisable sound, Clark Terry moved through the history of jazz with a rare blend of elegance, virtuosity, swing and humour. Able to bridge the energy of the big bands and the modernity of bebop, he left a unique mark through both his trumpet and flugelhorn playing, as well as through his generosity as a musician and teacher.

Today, our Brussels swing all-star band takes on, in sextet form, the music and spirit of one of jazz’s greatest horn players — much to our delight.

Baptiste Trotignon Trio - JAZZ STAR
vendredi 29 mai - 19:30 and 21:30
Baptiste Trotignon (piano, fender rhodes) ; Jerôme Regard (e.b, d.b) ; Raphaël Pannier (dr)

A major pianist of his generation, Baptiste Trotignon has long established himself as one of the leading voices of European jazz. An award-winning artist and a regular guest on major stages and at prestigious festivals, he has built a rare career shaped by high standards, curiosity, and a musical freedom that continues to reinvent itself.

All the more reason why we are delighted to welcome him to Toots Jazz Club for a club preview of his new album Art is Simple, to be released on 4 September 2026 on the Naïve label. Made up entirely of original music, this new repertoire is more refined, more contemplative, and at times almost cinematic, revealing another side of his musical world. For this special occasion, Baptiste Trotignon will perform on both piano and Fender Rhodes, adding yet more shades and colours to music full of elegance and space.

A precious moment, and a rare opportunity to hear, in the intimacy of the club, an artist more often found on the world’s great stages.

Plume - Flying High
samedi 30 mai - 19:30 and 21:30
Plume (alto sax) ; Leo Montana (p) ; Pierre-Eden Guilbaud (dr) ; Géraud Portal (b)

Plume is one of those musicians whose quietness contrasts with the obvious talent. As an alto saxophonist among the most impressive of his generation in Europe, he forges a rare path, as demanding as it is remarkable. A former contemporary of Walter Smith III, Christian Scott, and Ambrose Akinmusire at the prestigious Berklee College of Music in Boston—each of them highly praise him—he regularly performs alongside musicians such as Grégory Hutchinson or Joe Sanders.

During his New York years, he shared the stage with, among others, Mulgrew Miller, Roy Hargrove, Logan Richardson, Benny Green, and Justin Faulkner—just to name a small part of an already impressive journey. Well known on the Paris scene, regularly called upon to accompany the greatest American musicians on their European tours, he has established himself as one of those artists whom musicians admire as much as the public does.

We still remember his memorable guest appearance at Toots last July, as a last-minute guest. He returns today with his quartet to present his music: a inspired universe, propelled by a high-caliber rhythm section, crafted to support his soaring lines and striking solos.

An indispensable musician.

Nostalgia In Grand Place : Herbie Hancock - TRIBUTE
dimanche 31 mai - 16:00
Arnaud Guichard (tenor/soprano sax) ; Jerry Kuan (keys) ; Federico Pecoraro (electric bass) ; Martin Méreau (drums)

As part of the Nostalgia in Grand Place series, Arnaud Guichard pays tribute to one of the most visionary artists in the history of jazz: Herbie Hancock.

First recognised in the 1960s as an exceptional pianist and composer, notably alongside Miles Davis, Herbie Hancock has continued to redefine the contours of modern jazz over the decades. From his acoustic masterpieces to his electric explorations, from post-bop to funk, through synthesised textures and some of the boldest grooves in jazz, he has shaped a body of work that is free, refined, inventive and instantly recognisable.

With pieces that have become emblematic, such as Maiden Voyage, Cantaloupe Island, Chameleon and Dolphin Dance, Herbie Hancock opened up a singular path — a jazz of movement, colour and texture, where harmonic sophistication meets rhythmic energy, the drive of groove and a constant search for sound.

Through this programme, Arnaud Guichard explores that legacy with both respect and freedom, reconnecting with the spirit of a music in which listening, pulse and invention hold a central place.

A return to a time when jazz became, all at once, substance, groove and vision.

Wayne Escoffery Quartet - JAZZ SUPER STAR
dimanche 31 mai - 20:00
Wayne Escoffery (ts) ; Fred Nardin (p) ; Jasen Weaver (b) ; Romain Sarron (dr)

Wayne Escoffery, one of today’s most respected saxophonists, comes to Toots Jazz Club for a double quartet showcase. With a lyrical force, crystal clarity in his phrasing, and an unmistakable groove, his tone and swing promise an intimate yet electric experience.

Across his career, Escoffery has shared stages and studios with jazz luminaries and international leaders. His work alongside Tom Harrell and Clark Terry, collaborations with figures like David Liebman and Joey DeFrancesco, and his role as a Yale professor all testify to a voice that is both demanding and generous. His projects on independent labels and recent albums illustrate a rich, modern trajectory deeply rooted in the genre’s heritage.

For this double concert, the quartet explores hard bop’s diverse facets, refined swing, and orchestral colour that feed his compositions and arrangements. Expect tight dialogue with the rhythm section, controlled emotional crescendos, and solos that trace a career shaped by prestigious collaborations and bold projects—yet always accessible and instantly communicative.
