Big news from us: After seven years as THE CITY, we’re now The City Reporter!
Why the change? Read below for more on that.
But first, the news — because even though our name has changed, our great local journalism hasn’t.
A single Bronx apartment complex has been hit with nearly 500 eviction cases in less than two years, all because of faulty paperwork connected to tax breaks for the landlord. About 30% of all units in the complex have been hit with an eviction.
Now, a lawsuit is seeking a class-action case for tenants at the River Park Towers, some of whom were told by management they were in good standing, only to be dragged to Housing Court over alleged missing or incomplete “recertification” paperwork. Now, they face the possibility of having to leave their homes.
“I've gone through a lot in my life, which I've had to battle on my own. This is just one more battle that I have to face,” said 76-year-old Lillian Pagan, a tenant plaintiff. “But if they put me out, they better have a good reason.”
Weather ☀️
