Today's Scoop is brought to you by our members.

Dear New Yorkers,

Just over a decade ago, when the de Blasio administration first proposed big land use changes to spur development in East New York, many residents there feared it would lead to gentrification and push them out

But the picture of the Brooklyn neighborhood now doesn’t bear that out.

Yes, people are pouring in, data shows; between 2010 and 2020, the population there has grown faster than Brooklyn or the city as a whole.

But the number of Black and Hispanic residents has grown, not shrunk, and the median income has grown far less than in the rest of the city. Seniors living there have grown 87%.

And the planned number of apartments promised to be built there is years ahead of schedule.

Weather ☀️

Sunny with a high near 77 during the day. Partly cloudy with a low around 60 at night.

MTA 🚇

Midday, no N train at Coney Island-Stillwell Avenue; free shuttle buses run between there and 86th Street. Find all the MTA’s planned changes and the latest delays here.

Alternate side parking 🚙

It’s in effect today, June 2.

By the way…

Kids could get up to $3,000 each in child savings accounts under a City Council proposal. However that measure advances, here’s what local families can do now to save for college.
