5:00 PM, Theater Square, Osnabrück ---- From May 27th to June 6th, the German Armed Forces' propaganda show "K.A.R.L." will take place in Osnabrück's Theater Square. "K.A.R.L. Career Advice, Roadshow, and Lounge"in terms of its cringe factor, it remains firmly in the tradition of the spiked helmet. A marketing and PR event by the German Armed Forces, a hands-on experience of militarization.
We are calling for a rally on Friday, May 29th, at 5:00 PM to protest this.Following Russia's war of aggression against Ukraine, the then-governing coalition immediately established a special fund of 100 billion euros. To put this in perspective: One billion seconds is approximately 31.7 years. This trend of armaments and militarization has continued unabated ever since. Military spending is exempt from the debt brake and can be increased virtually without limit. At the EU level, an EUR800 billion package for the military and armaments is to be implemented, and NATO has decided to allocate 5% of its GDP to defense by 2025. Germany is among the countries with the highest military expenditures.
Conscription is being slowly reintroduced, and attempts are being made to prepare young people for war. Last year, the German Armed Forces opened the medical congress and called for a focus on war injuries in continuing education. Furthermore, a legally enshrined mandatory conscription for medical personnel is being prepared. This alone should make it clear where this course of action could lead! The healthcare system must now also serve the military. This is just one example of the paradigm shift in the German mentality. In preparation for a war seen as inevitable, everything must be subordinated to military doctrine. The social question, measured not only in monetary terms, recedes further into the background and is, at best, mobilized to incite those who have little against those who have even less. When everything is subjected to military discipline, it has an effect on people. The fatherland is the vehicle through which all class differences can seemingly be leveled.
While money flows unhindered into rearmament, the so-called welfare state is being massively dismantled. Massive cuts to basic income, education, healthcare, youth services, etc.the list could go on indefinitely. This is accompanied by an unbridled campaign of hatred against the poor and migrants, which already reveals how far the ruling class is prepared to go. This hatred produces a cold social atmosphere in which all evil is blamed on the socially disadvantagedthe subsequent dismantling of social services then results in precariousness, which in turn manifests itself in further hatred. This cycle seems to be self-perpetuating, yet it is always and fundamentally driven by the perpetual hunger of capital, which, in times of crisis, must mobilize all its forces to ensure its own survival.
Let me be clear: Russia's war of aggression is unjustifiable. Anyone who subscribes to this logic is one of our adversaries. It must be understood within the context of an escalating crisis of capitalism and the West's loss of hegemony. Not only the West, but the entire world is heading towards war, in which states are increasingly attempting to enforce their interests through military means - human rights are not a consideration. This logic must be rejected. However hopeless it may seem, there is no alternative but to connect and network with deserters, sabotage, and strikers on both sides of the front line - ultimately, with the people who are paying for this war materially, often with their lives - and to betray the logic of war. This shouldn't be done unilaterally, otherwise we're taking sides, but we have to start somewhere.
Bundeswehr (German Armed Forces) shows are meant to accustom us to militarization; they're meant to recruit and make the military, with all its trappings, seem hip.
We oppose this charade.
