The storm hitting the Electrolux plant in Porcia today is not an isolated incident, nor a temporary corporate crisis. It is the local expression of a precise global strategy of contemporary capitalism. --- In this phase of stagnation in Western markets and wars for resources, big financial capital has stopped even pretending to make long-term investments: its only watchword is the unbridled extraction of short-term value.
Through rampant automation, rampant delocalization, and total precarization, multinationals are redefining the geopolitical map of labor, concentrating profits in the hands of a select few and shifting the costs of the ecological and geopolitical crisis onto the shoulders of the global working class.On June 18th, the march from the gates of the Porcia North Gate to the Pordenone Prefecture cannot and must not be yet another ritual of union consultation.
It must be a moment of rupture, of class complicity against this daily violence of capital.
The numbers in the Swedish multinational's industrial plan speak clearly. In Porcia, approximately 260 disguised layoffs are planned, along with the hijacking of the strategic washer-dryer line, causing production to plummet to just 500,000 units per year (a full 220,000 fewer than estimated). Nationally, the social massacre involves a total of 1,719 redundancies, with the complete closure of the Cerreto d'Esi site and heavy cuts in Solaro and Forlì. This is the true face of "restructuring": the desertification of our territories and the dismantling of the lives of those who work there.
As Libertarian Initiative, we radically reject the employers' rhetoric of "painful but necessary choices."
Behind these figures lies a precise strategy to preserve privileges:
Those who work are reduced to "structural redundancies" to be eliminated to adjust the balance sheets. Our factories aren't paying for a decline in quality, but for the greed of a capital that refuses to accept a reduction in its margins and chooses to protect shareholder dividends by sacrificing the material subsistence of the working class.
Public subsidies for private profits! The same parasitic scheme is repeated. Electrolux blackmails ministerial tables by demanding that the community, through layoffs, pay the social cost of its divestments. The state thus confirms its role as big business's accountant and shock absorber, socializing losses while profits fly unhindered to Stockholm.
The usual war between the poor and geographic blackmail, by moving production lines to Eastern Europe, management is implementing a cynical geographic tactic, exploiting wage asymmetries to pit Porcia workers against those in other countries, fragmenting international solidarity to force everyone to accept lower conditions.
The only real response is not delegation or passively waiting for an institutional meeting to ratify the cuts. It is active solidarity, self-organization, and the rejection of wage blackmail.
Wealth belongs to those who produce it every day with their living labor, not to those who exploit and redistribute the crumbs.
We stand in solidarity with the workers of Electrolux and its related industries.
