More than before, worse than before. The Regional Council reshuffle, completed on April 29th, has brought new poisonous fruits to all Sicilians. Governor Renato Schifani, former President of the Senate under investigation for mafia-related offences, had removed the Cuffaro-supporting councillors from the government (the most compromised of the many regional councillors and deputies implicated in crimes of all kinds), apparently responding to the wave of indignation that had swept across the island with the mass anti-government vote in the justice referendum.
On April 29th, he carried out a typical Leopard-like reshuffle.The first surprise (so to speak) is the return to the Department of Family and Social Policies of Nuccia Albano, daughter of the Borgetto mafia boss, a member of Cuffaro's DC party (who is laughing under house arrest: true magicians in Sicily always come back to the surface). The second is the appointment to the Civil Service of Elisa Ingala, an accountant and judicial administrator (it is therefore assumed she understands employment law), a member of Raffaele Lombardo's PdA Grande Sicilia, a former associate and now rival of Cuffaro, who has also been involved in mafia proceedings. Cuffaro and Lombardo, worthy predecessors of Schifani, are rumored to be the "real" governors of Sicily.
The third surprise is an old acquaintance of Forza Italia, former regional coordinator Marcello Caruso, a political wheeler-dealer good for any position (but already opposed by a section of his own party), who replaces Daniela Faraoni at the (Bad) Health Department, a "technician" who took over a year ago from Giovanna Volo, under investigation in Messina for corruption and embezzlement. Anyone who expected the resignation of tourism councilor Elvira Amata and regional assembly president Gaetano Galvagno, both on trial for corruption, embezzlement, forgery, and fraud, representing the Brothers of Italy, and of Luca Sammartino, vice president of the assembly and agriculture councilor, suspended for corruption, representing the League, were disappointed. Arianna Meloni, La Russa, and Salvini have "locked them down." With this fine company, Schifani will be able to continue plundering Sicily's resources with impunity.
In recent days, news broke that the United States, perpetuating the "Maduro method," has requested Mexico extradite the governor of Sinaloa for trial, accused of protecting drug cartels in exchange for bribes. Cosa Nostra, both on both sides of the Atlantic, is worried. Sooner or later, they'll come for Schifani and his associates.
