Kyiv’s mayor has declared another day of mourning for the capital tomorrow.
Just days after Thursday’s attack and a day of mourning on Friday, Russia launched another major barrage this morning, killing at least 19 and injuring dozens after 68 missiles were detected in Ukraine’s airspace. A monitoring channel called it “one of the worst nights” for Ukraine as 29 ballistic missiles were fired at Kyiv – and none were intercepted. After the barrage, secondary explosions persisted well into the late morning near Kyiv, in the suburb of Vyshneve, where some of the Kyiv Post staff live.
Ahead of tomorrow’s NATO summit in Ankara, Zelensky has called for more Patriot missiles – comments echoed by Ukraine’s foreign minister and defense minister. Kyiv has also called for an emergency UN Security Council meeting, while the UN humanitarian chief called the suffering “unbearable” upon visiting the destroyed homes in Kyiv.
But while the alliance is expected to pledge €70 billion in assistance and see Zelensky meet Trump face-to-face, it remains unclear whether that will bring the Patriots Kyiv desperately needs.
