Fedorov said he would only accept his reinstatement to the defense minister role.
The response followed Zelensky’s earlier proposal in the day while hosting Irish Taoiseach Micheál Martin in Kyiv. Zelensky said he offered Fedorov something called “deputy PM for military innovations,” which, without an actual, existing ministry, raises more questions about how it’s supposed to work.
Zelensky also confirmed that former PM Svyrydenko was offered the envoy position to Washington – which she reportedly declined – as well as another vague position that Zelensky refused to elaborate on.
As for the Lavrov-Rubio meeting in Manila, not much is known about what was said behind closed doors. Lavrov complained about Washington’s arms supplies to Kyiv, while Rubio said Russia is losing 5,000-6,000 troops a week.
There is also some big aviation-related news today – a Russian pilot crashed a rare Su-57 stealth jet near Moscow, while a US general confirmed that a Ukrainian F-16 scored an aerial kill against a Russian Su-35 – the first confirmed kill of its kind since the two jets entered service decades ago.
