Rumors over Syrsky’s potential replacement have been heating up in Ukraine.
The commander-in-chief, in a surprise update last night, apologized to Fedorov and said he was unaware of the animosity between the two. But amid the continued public outrage over Fedorov’s departure, rumors suggest that the commander of Ukraine’s Joint Forces, Mykhailo Drapaty, might be the top candidate to replace Syrsky. We also looked at a whole list of other potential candidates as the situation remains unresolved despite the formal approval of Khmara as acting defense minister.
Otherwise, the war has raged on – reports of Crimea being plunged into blackouts surfaced once again alongside reports of payphones being installed due to lack of mobile communications, while a fire erupted near Russia’s largest steel plant as Kyiv also stepped up the “middle strike” campaign against Russian logistics. Russia also went tit-for-tat and hit a gas tanker en route to Ukraine.
In other news, Laura Loomer – the far-right conspiracist who once called Zelensky both a “jihadist apologist” and a “Nazi apologist” (yes, in the same sentence) – came to Ukraine and apologized for her previous criticisms, while FBI Director Kash Patel is rumored to be visiting Russia in October – with the Kremlin neither confirming nor denying it.
