Emmanuelle Saada's work is a monumental synthesis encompassing the period from the 15th century to the present day. In seven thematic chapters, she shows not only how colonization took place, but also how colonized peoples initially resisted it, adapted to it, and then rejected it. She reminds us that colonization proceeded from a process of discovery followed by barbarity, the "savages" not being the vanquished... Nevertheless, while some sought to understand the colonial world, their desire was co-opted into a will to subjugate, dominate, and exploit. The book thus reminds us that colonization, far from being a project of emancipation, generated misery and enslavement. Colonization, or rather its legacy, occupies a significant place in Jean-Sylvestre de Mongrenier's dictionary. It is primarily a matter of understanding power dynamics between nations. Contemporary geopolitical analysis also examines environmental issues, as well as the economic and social challenges of globalization. The author offers an impressive list of concepts that allow us to navigate the history and almost geology of the committees and conferences that have shaped contemporary transformations. He emphasizes that while the upheaval of the major balances began between 1979 and 1991, the underlying causes are much older. While the 1990s raised hopes for freedom, it is clear that since the 2010s, a contrary wind has been blowing across the world.
The amused reader can also discover an original meaning for the word "anarchy," coined by the American political scientist Robert Kaplan, who explained that anarchy is a deconstructed world resulting from a major geopolitical upheaval...
