Russia’s missile machine is running at full speed – and Ukraine is warning that Moscow’s bombardment campaign is unlikely to slow down. Russian forces launched a record 377 ballistic and cruise missiles at Ukraine in July, while Moscow continues exceeding production targets for key weapons systems and shifting resources toward missiles it considers more reliable. Ukraine’s military intelligence warns the Kremlin is building capacity for sustained strikes into the fall and winter, as Kyiv still faces shortages in ballistic missile defenses.
At the same time, Ukraine is taking the fight deeper into Russia. Kyiv launched a barrage of 450+ drones against Russia overnight on Aug. 10, targeting 16 regions and occupied Crimea. In Tatarstan, drones struck the Nizhnekamsk industrial area, home to one of Russia’s largest petrochemical complexes and other strategic energy facilities, in the latest attack on Moscow’s war economy.
Meanwhile, the Kremlin is tightening its manpower push. Russian authorities have ordered regions to recruit 409,000 contract soldiers this year, increasing pressure on local officials to fill military ranks without triggering another nationwide mobilization. The campaign highlights Moscow’s growing dependence on a steady flow of recruits to sustain its war effort.
