Ninety years ago, anarchism, as a political project of the people, demonstrated undeniable strength among the oppressed classes. This strength, built over years through organization, allowed them to confront the military coup that began on July 17th in Morocco and soon spread throughout the Spanish state. The most reactionary sectors of the army, the church, economic power, and homegrown fascism sought to halt the revolutionary upsurge that workers and peasants had achieved through their social and political organizations during the years of the Second Republic. Thus, the military encountered fierce resistance from the workers, who confronted them with well-organized people's militias. The people, in arms, carried out a true Social Revolution that swept away the old order, collectivizing the means of production and self-managing healthcare, education, and labor in general. An organized society emerged, building power from the ground up without governments or bosses.
In the current context, the Milei government and its accomplices in Congress, the business sector, and provincial executives represent the acceleration of an ultraliberal capitalism tailored to international financial interests, extractive industries, U.S. imperialism, and the genocidal state of Israel. They are implementing a model that destroys social rights, attacks public services, cuts funding for critical sectors like health and education, and constantly represses the popular sectors in the most brutal ways.
It is here that the glorious Social Revolution of 1936 is not a recipe to be repeated, but rather the impetus to understand that other futures are possible. We take the example of those who, 90 years ago, confronted fascism by building a self-governing society through solidarity, grassroots organizing, and direct action.
We must confront those at the top; we must confront Milei and his henchmen. We must rebuild class solidarity, hatred of the oppressors, active organization, and direct action against those who want us enslaved and subjected to this death machine. As in 1936, we must make the Social Revolution.
Knowing that the road is long, and from the humility of our position, but with unwavering conviction, we come together to develop a political project of our own, belonging to the popular sectors. We are moving towards a self-managed society where the workers, and those of us who daily maintain the commons and the public sphere, are the ones who plan, organize, and make society function without oppressors or oppressed.
