We express our repudiation of the violent action of the military police against the striking students who occupied the Rectorate of USP. --- · The occupation was a response to the intransigence of Rector Aluísio Segurado, who broke off dialogue with the striking movement and canceled a previously scheduled meeting. --- · While directors of university units released statements supporting the Rectorate's stance and attempting to politically isolate the students, the central administration not only maintained its refusal to engage in dialogue but also called in the military police at the beginning of the occupation.
This morning, on Mother's Day, Sunday, at 4:15 am, as a result of this legitimization by the university bureaucracy, the police illegally invaded the occupation without any mediation. The military police used a gauntlet, tear gas, and aggression, resulting in several injuriessome with serious fracturesand four arrests, with the students being released later that morning.
Even if it claims it did not call for the repressive action of the Military Police, the Segurado Rectorate is responsible for this violent action, which had the support of the unit directors who, with their statements of repudiation of the students, legitimized the repression.
The OSL expresses:
. Total solidarity with the students;
. Full support for the student strike, the occupation, and all its methods of struggle.
Faced with this absurd attack, we will be with the students, staff, and faculty of USP, Unesp, and Unicamp starting at 2 PM against the unacceptable action of Tarcísio de Freitas's Military Police and against the intransigence of the Segurado Rectorate, and in defense of the demands of the categories in struggle.
THIS MONDAY (May 11th) EVERYONE TO THE UNIFIED ACT AT PRAÇA DA REPÚBLICA, AT 2 PM
