The Libertarian Socialist Organization (OSL) expresses its unwavering solidarity with Professor Guilherme Runge, from the municipal school system of Cachoeirinha (RS) and a member of the Cachoeirinha Municipal Workers' Union. --- Guilherme has been persecuted since last year for his commitment as a union activist and for his support of the anti-racist struggle in the municipality's schools. --- Because of this action, the Cachoeirinha city hall opened a Disciplinary Administrative Process (PAD) last year, seeking not only to silence the professor, but to criminalize his anti-racist stance, his commitment to liberating popular education, and his union activity.
This is a typical example of political persecution against the collective action of those who fight for an education that opposes all forms of oppression. As the "basis" for the accusation, the PAD (Administrative Disciplinary Proceeding) uses a poem of his authorship ("Black Bodies at the Anti-Racist Crossroads"), produced in 2024.
Emulating inquisitorial practices, the process did not allow the full defense of the teacher and has been distorting legal elements to intimidate and silence this anti-racist pedagogical practice in the public school system of Cachoeirinha. Professor Guilherme awaits the conclusion of the administrative process, in the hands of the current mayor, Jussara Caçapava (AVANTE).
We observe with concern the increase in political persecution against educators in different municipalities of the country.
It is fundamental that all political organizations and popular movements committed to the anti-racist struggle and to the freedom of union organization speak out in defense of the persecuted teachers.
For the immediate dismissal of the PAD!
All solidarity to Professor Guilherme Runge!
Anti-racist education is not a crime!
