Dear New Yorkers,

Families with young children could soon find it easier to get around the city on the bus, thanks to the addition of stroller-only spaces across the MTA’s entire fleet of roughly 6,000 buses.

“We often talk about how our buses are critical ways for people to get to school, to work, to health care,” Demetrius Crichlow, president of New York City Transit, said Thursday. “But we can’t forget about those who have children and families that need to get to the playground, to get to visit grandparents, to get to their first play dates.”

The MTA says all its buses will have designated stroller space by the end of the year. The transit agency began piloting the initiative on seven routes in 2022, without taking any space prioritized for wheelchair users at the front of the bus.

Three in four MTA buses on more than 250 routes now have stroller-only areas where seats can be flipped up to make room for kids and their parents. Transit officials say the remaining buses are being retrofitted at bus depots, while all new bus orders will include spots for strollers.

“Parents feel more comfortable — it’s become more normal and socially accepted for strollers to be on buses,” said Danielle Avissar, a Manhattan mother of two.

A: When your budget reflects your priorities, you’re not just managing money—you’re empowering yourself to make confident financial decisions. Consider automating your savings so it happens without you even thinking about it. Include transfers to savings in your budget, just like you would a bill. This way, you’ll be sure to put money away each month before it gets spent.  Watching your savings grow, no matter the amount, is a powerful way to build financial security and peace of mind.
