WORLD WORLDWIDE EUROPE FRANCE - news journal UPDATE - (en) France, Monde Libertaire - Back from Les Reclusiennes (ca, de, fr, it, pt, tr) [machine translation]

Having been held continuously since 2013, the 14th edition of Les Reclusiennes took place from July 15th to 18th in Sainte Foy-la-Grande (33), the birthplace of geographer and anarchist Élisée Reclus and some of his siblings, under the theme "Fighting, Debating." Initiated by a collective of Sainte Foy residents and supported by regular contributors, Les Reclusiennes has grown in popularity year after year. Regular attendees, those who mark the dates of the next edition months in advance, are gradually joined by newcomers, drawn to an event where the quality of the program goes hand in hand with the convivial atmosphere of the long tables that punctuate the meals. People come to Les Reclusiennes not only to listen to the speakers, but also to meet them and exchange ideas.

For this 2026 edition, the organizers invited us to "fight," reflecting current events that foreshadow many battles to come. Let's hear what they had to say:

"At first glance, 'fighting' might evoke military conflict, war, destruction... While certainly present in the current landscape, and without denying its importance, war will not be our subject. The battles we wish to discuss, past and future, are not those where the aim is to eliminate, humiliate, or subdue the adversary. However, the struggles that interest us here do not shy away from confrontation, aware that the resistance they encounter will not disappear on its own.

That is why 'fighting' goes hand in hand with 'debating.'" This means that the men and women whose struggles we will be highlighting during these Reclusiennes 2026 are organizing, joining forces, uniting, informing themselves to inform others, debating to persuade... in short, they are fighting.

Around this theme, and based on reflections carried out throughout the preceding year, the organizers have put together a program that can be found on the organization's website: https://www.reclusiennes.com/
Ninety years after the start of the Spanish Revolution, a look back at history was a fitting introduction to a program that gives pride of place to the struggle of women for their rights, the fight for alternative education, the battles against fascism, xenophobia, and antisemitism, not forgetting environmental and social struggles, and local citizen mobilizations against the many large-scale, unnecessary projects in the region. Shows, concerts, literary happy hours, and a film screening (The Path to Freedom by Christophe Cordier and Pierre Chamechaude) all serve to remind us that "if we can't dance...", then we dance anyway.

Over the years, Sainte-Foy-la-Grande has become a meeting place for many libertarians. Members of the federation contribute to organizing the event, and others are invited to speak at roundtables. Since its inception, Radio Libertaire, the anarchist federation's radio station, has been present to broadcast and record the discussions. All the debates are available to the organization and can be listened to again now: https://www.reclusiennes.com/

The "Trous Noirs" team, back from Ste Foy, meets every Monday from 4 pm to 6 pm and is taking this opportunity to offer you some of these discussions this summer: Monday, July 20, "Learning to Debate, Educating Differently." Monday, July 27, "Fighting Fascism and Xenophobia," with Olivier Manoni and Philippe Diaz.
