Motorway projects have been thrust into the spotlight in France in recent years, and not in the way they would like... The most well-known is the A69 project linking Toulouse and Castres, which has generated considerable controversy and continues to do so despite strong mobilization by local residents and associations. The same is true for the A154-A120 motorway project between Dreux and Chartres, which would extend the western Paris bypass at the expense of the environment and the economic well-being of users.
The A154-A120 motorway project would be financed exclusively by tolls, on a route that, for two-thirds of its length, privatizes our RN154 and a section of the RN12, currently toll-free, which more than half of commuters in cars and truck drivers will no longer be able to use once it becomes a toll road; they already struggle so much with the cost of fuel!The cost of this toll will only be known once the contract is signed, therefore too late for the residents of Eure-et-Loir to have their say.
* Users who cannot pay will pass through our villages, risking overloading the secondary road network and increasing accidents and pollution. What about independent truck drivers?
* What will happen if the revenue doesn't materialize? Will local authorities once again have to foot the bill to guarantee the concessionaire's profits?
* Will the three viaducts planned to cross our three valleys-the Eure, the Avre, and the Blaise-increase the risk of flooding, in addition to damaging over 90 hectares of wetlands and woodlands teeming with incredible biodiversity?
These questions remain unanswered two months before the concession contract is scheduled to be signed. Yet, a railway infrastructure in need of restoration already exists between Dreux, Chartres, and Orléans, and would perfectly address the urgent need for low-carbon mobility to slow climate change, for both freight and passengers.

More trains and more cycle paths to reach the train stations of Chartres, Dreux, and Orléans by bike are the only solutions that don't produce CO2 and don't seal off the soil, in addition to being much more economical for users; and yet, the choice is still and always the same: asphalt at exorbitant prices!
An ecological absurdity
The Infrastructure Advisory Council (COI), tasked with informing the State's choices, clearly reiterates that, faced with budgetary constraints, the climate emergency, and the worrying state of our networks, investments should be concentrated on the regeneration, modernization, and optimization of existing infrastructure rather than multiplying large, costly projects whose benefits are often uncertain.
After the floods, episodes of drought and heatwaves are becoming more frequent. And yet, we want to encourage even more road traffic!
This is an ecological, economic, and even land-use planning absurdity, especially when investments are being directed towards rail across Europe. Everywhere, the understanding is that 21st-century mobility must be collective, accessible, and decarbonized.
We demand an immediate moratorium on the A154-A120 project and that rail alternatives be studied with the same seriousness, resources, and political will as road projects. We also demand that the 200 kilometers of safe cycle paths, financially committed to by Eure-et-Loir in 2023, be implemented as quickly as possible.
