The life and works of a major figure in Italian anarchism, and in Apulia in particular. Michele Pantaleo (Bari, 1887-1944) devoted himself to the defense of the lower classes as a militant journalist, anarchist theorist, literary critic, short story writer, and even poet. ---- These are powerful pages. Drawing on previously unpublished documents, the research focuses on the most significant turning points in his life: his self-taught education at a printing press; his throwing a chair at the jurors during the reading of the sentence against the anarchist Sabino Sassanelli; the trials he endured during the four years spent in the "tomb of the living" and, subsequently, the twelve years spent in confinement; His work as a proofreader and then as an editor at Humanitas publishing house; his collaboration with various anarchist publications; and, finally, his solitary death in December 1944 at the "Casa dei Poverelli" in Bari, on the seafront wall along which he loved to walk.Pantaleo fought for a different world, more just and freer. In his works, we find the dream of a social and political rebirth and, at the same time, a clear rejection of bureaucratic and totalitarian forms of politics (fascism, Stalinism) as well as dominant values. For all this, he paid a very high price. Indeed, he paid more than others for his belonging to anarchist culture: marginalization, isolation, and, above all, oblivion.
Nicola Fanizza (Mola di Bari 1951), after graduating in Philosophy from the University of Bari, moved to Milan. Here, starting in the 1980s, he was editor of "La Balena Bianca" (Pellicani) and "InOltre" (Jaca Book). He later collaborated with "L'Acropoli", "Alfabeta2", "Nazione Indiana", and "Machina".
He is the author of several books. He directs the website of the Piero Delfino Pesce Documentation Center. He specializes in history and philosophical anthropology.

Sebastiano Gernone (Bari, 1957) graduated in Political Science from the University of Bari with a thesis on Brigandage after the Unification.
His articles have appeared in "il manifesto", "Il Calendario del Popolo", "l'antifascista", and "Conoscenza Religiosa".
For RAI, he conceived and collaborated on the direction and editing of the documentary Ritorno a Ventotene, about anti-fascist exiles.
He conducts research with Ipsaic.
