The US passed the long-overdue Russia sanctions bill – now it awaits Trump’s signature.
Which, frankly, is either very good or very bad timing considering the lack of progress in the so-called energy truce and Trump’s blame for Ukraine on diesel prices. Ukraine has kept hitting Russian refineries, whereas Russia has stepped up attacks along the NATO border, with some drones found just 4 km (2.5 miles) from the Polish border, and others actually in NATO territory, which has become almost the norm.
There are no signs that things are slowing down – news has broken that Belarus reportedly turned on drone repeaters for Russia once again recently, coinciding with news of a new prisoner-for-sanction-lifting deal with Uncle Sam, while Russia reportedly employs 25,000 North Koreans to help build drones – the same drones responsible for unprecedented civilian casualties seen in 2026, as suggested by a UN report.
Zelensky also took a firmer stance on Beijing as the war drags on, saying it has the power to stop Russia but chose not to, in one of his strongest condemnations to date.
