Russia’s State Duma elections have started – with a few blasts.
With every anti-war option excluded from the ballots, little change is expected in Moscow’s governance or the war at large, even if some voters are constantly reminded of Putin’s own war, with over 600 drones flying over Russia this morning.
That pessimism is compounded by how little appetite there is in the West to unite against Russia if push comes to shove – Slovakia’s Fico just poured cold water on the whole Article 5 idea despite his country having joined NATO in 2004, while the Russian disinformation machine is already hard at work against France’s upcoming elections. And across the ocean, the Trump administration is – again – reportedly eyeing some sweet business deals with Russia to entice negotiations, which, given the absolute lack of progress in that approach so far, is just a laughable farce at this point.
Reports also suggest that Russia began refitting training missiles to hit Ukraine to conserve its stockpiles – but at least some good news comes in the form of Hungary finally eyeing a switch from Russian gas.
