It’s Wednesday, Sept. 23 The Zelensky-Trump meeting yielded some talk of de-escalation – which has been anything but in Kyiv. Just mere blocks away from the Kyiv Post office, Russian jet-powered drones – among the nearly 8,000 launched in the war – were slamming into buildings near the train station for a few hours, with one of the iconic markets burned down after one of the strikes. The attack – which is still ongoing – cut off internet for some and delayed trains. But the Zelensky-Trump talks appear to be mostly positive, with Zelensky offering an energy truce and hinting at positive news on Patriot production, whereas Trump claimed that Putin is willing to meet – which is partly true, with Putin’s spokesperson saying yes to Trump but telling Zelensky to come to Moscow, again, if he wants to talk to Putin, effectively derailing the whole trilateral proposal. On the bright side, Ukraine also appears to have recovered all lost ground in the Donbas in 2026, as the number of confirmed dead Russian troops – by name – surpassed a quarter million.
