Ukraine got rid of another Russian general – this time with a drone, on the front.
Maj. Gen. Anton Grunis, known for claiming the false capture of Kostiantynivka, was killed by Ukraine’s drone forces in a reported Sept. 12 strike. Grunis’s death also followed other setbacks in Russia, including a missile component plant reportedly being sabotaged and its election system reportedly being hacked just days before the State Duma elections.
In what could potentially be interpreted as signs of desperation, Lavrov also upped the threats, warning Europe that a war with Russia would be “very short,” while the Russian military began hitting Ukrainian civilian trains regularly. But nonetheless, Zelensky still warned that Putin has his eyes on all of Ukraine, warning that there’s no such thing as win-win in peace talks.
And things in Ukraine aren’t that great either – the government has submitted its 2027 budget. While businesses expect some revenue growth, Ukraine continues to stare at a widening budget gap, and Zelensky has also warned of “unpopular” decisions to keep defense running.
A little good, a little bad, and a lot in between.
