LA VIE D'UN SQUAT
 
C'est g?n?ralement apr?s une expulsion, et souvent une s?rie
d'expulsions, qu'un nouveau squat se constitue. Il n'est d'abord qu'un
dortoir pr?caire, par crainte d'une nouvelle expulsion qui peut venir
d'un jour ? l'autre. Si l'expulsion ne vient pas, les habitants
s'installent, et la vie s'organise.
Un ou plusieurs foyers apparaissent, si l'espace est suffisamment grand
un peu ? l'?cart des endroits o? on dort. C'est autour de du feu que
l'on se rassemble, que l'on discute, qu'on partage le th? et le caf?,
qu'on cuisine, qu'on re?oit les gens venus en visite. On mange assis par
terre, un peu plus loin. Un endroit le plus ? l'?cart possible est
sacrifi? pour servir de WC. Un autre espace sert ? entasser les
d?tritus, puisque la mairie ne ramasse pas les poubelles devant les
squats.
Pr?caire et dans le d?nuement, la vie s'organise donc, avec des rep?res
et un minimum de stabilit?, qui apportent un sentiment de s?curit?
minimum pour ne pas se d?truire.
 
Expulser, c'est jeter ces personnes dans l'incertitude non pas du
lendemain mais de l'endroit o? ils pourront chaque nuit, peut-?tre
dormir. C'est le manque de sommeil qui s'accumule puisque la police
d?loge la nuit sous les ponts et dans les parcs et expulse au petit
matin ceux qui ont r?ussi ? s'abriter dans un endroit discret, et qui
s'additionne ? l'angoisse et ? la perte de rep?re. La traque de lieu en
lieu apr?s expulsion peut dur?e plusieurs semaines. Dans le langage des
organisations de d?fense des droits de l'homme, on appelle ?a traitement
inhumain et d?gradant, il s'agit de d?truire l personnalit? sans tuer la
personne.
 
Le squat de la rue Mouron ?tait d'un d?nuement total, et la pr?sence
d'un important stock d'alcool n'arrangeait pas les choses. Mais comme
disent ses habitants en apprenant leur expulsion prochaine : ? m?me l?
on ne nous laisse pas vivre ?. C'est une vie collective qui s'?tait
tiss?e dans ce lieu, et que l'expulsion va d?truire, sans offrir aux
expuls?s autre chose que l'errance.
 

(en) [ORL-EC] NOTE OF SOLIDARITY WITH those fighting COMMUNITY OF cumbe ARACATI - CEAR? (pt)

We, the Libertarian Resistance Organization [ENT], a member of the Brazilian Anarchist 
Coordination ( CAB ), we provide our full support and solidarity because of the violent 
eviction suffered for twenty seven families belonging to the Community of Cumbia, located 
12km from the city of Aracaty, coastal east of Cear? . The community of Cumbia, formed by 
fisherwomen, seafood / and the workers in general, as evidence of resistance in the 
struggle for life and full maintenance of their territories, occupied since the day March 
10, 2013 an old farm / shrimp farm that was disabled since 2004. ---- During the months of 
occupation of the abandoned area, the community organized locally for activities such as 
debates ecosystem conservation, discussions with social movements and activities in 
support of the camp. Unlike the supposed "owner " who appropriated the area to degrade it, 
the families belonging to the community came Cumbia self managing their territory with the 
prospect of working in the recovery of degraded areas .
 
Unfortunately, on the 20th of August, a violent and cowardly, families were evicted by the 
Military Police in an action granted by justice, which only has eyes for defending big 
business . Following the military police in action was a bailiff and manager Rubens Gomes 
dos Santos, who claims to own the land . Thus, we ask: Owner ? As well, Owner ? As 
mentioned businessman, destructive of the environment, can own a huge mangrove area ?
 
What is clear, in our view, is that much of this is due to the problematic relations 
between the State and favored entrepreneurs of shrimp farming . This close relationship is 
seen clearly when the executive power granted vast lands for the exploitation and 
degradation and this is confirmed by the decisions of the legislature that makes laws to 
benefit the prawn and when we see that whenever " there are problems in the laws for 
installation or property, "the judge justice in favor of entrepreneurs at the expense of 
the community . Just like the case of Cumbia, this collusion between political and 
economic region ( state and big capital ) has long been overwhelming and exterminate 
collective efforts in defense of mangroves .
 
It is understood as the practice of shrimp shrimp farming in ponds . This has been partly 
the northeastern coast of Cear? and one of the activities that directly affect most 
coastal environment . With the goal of large-scale production, mangrove areas are replaced 
by installing huge artificial ponds, impacting the habitat of numerous species of 
crustaceans, fish, birds and insects, which is as true mangrove nursery biodiversity 
present in coastal areas . Officially, a question that can not fail to draw attention is 
that, according to the National System of Conservation Units ( SNUG ) mangrove environment 
is a Protected Area (PPA ), therefore, it is illegal destruction of mangrove vegetation 
and salt flats ( native vegetation of the mangrove ecosystem ), as well as promoting the 
degradation of existing species .
 
People residing near the mangrove has a whole culture that was built from the contact with 
the ecosystem, which is the place of origin of their primary food source . Thus, the 
mangrove is also present as a secular place for fishermen and seafood restaurants in the 
region, where the customs and practices date back long periods, according to the 
collective memory of the community . In contrast, the entrepreneur is a devastating 
mangrove ecosystem in our state, which contributed and continue to contribute to the 
reduction of mangrove area of Cear? . The occupation was abandoned nursery legitimate and 
aimed to denounce the devastation the mangrove ecosystem, as claimed ensuring permanence 
and continuation of their way of life and culture in its territory .
 
We are completely against the logic of capitalist destruction of the environment, defense 
of landlordism, criminalization of fighters / es and territories extermination of native 
populations . We are lovers of equality will only be achieved through the organization of 
horizontal base, the construction of popular power, shoulder to shoulder in the fight and 
the seeds that are planted every day by fighters / those of another company, as is the 
case of residents fighting the Cumbia . We see the initiative as a cry from the camp that 
says just the latifundia, just inequality, simply the criminalization of social movements, 
just to deforestation of mangroves, just water pollution, soil salinisation, just, just 
the oppressions we suffer .
 
Therefore we are opposed to this activity, the so-called " progress" capitalist who is 
nailed to the region and the State makes use of their organized violence, the police, to 
oppress the people of the coastal area fighters . We sympathize families of fighters / s 
community of Cumbia, resistance and support their struggles, calling all of those who are 
against this social injustice and state violence, to show solidarity to their companions / 
the fighters / s coastal zone .

?People who got mortgages they can?t afford to pay back were greedy and foolish and should 
suffer the consequences?They signed a free contract, they?re adults and they have to take 
responsibility for their actions?. This is the kind of thing that gets thrown around a lot 
in recessions. It conveniently ignores a few things.The idea that getting a mortgage is 
voluntary comes from the same people who brought you privatisation and the financial 
markets. They like to call it a free and voluntary exchange. You exchange much of the work 
you will do for the next 30 years or so of your life for a home in which to live and one 
day own. ---- Your second option is to exchange much of that work for a home which you 
rent and will never own. Your third option is to live on the street. What you don?t have 
is the freedom to put a roof over your head without making any exchange at all. And they 
expect us to be thankful for that ?freedom??
 
We had no say in deciding that those should be the choices we get in life. We don?t have 
the capital the banks have and we don?t have the properties the landlord has. The only 
thing we have to exchange for a roof over our heads is our labour. It?s easy for the banks 
and the landlords to preach to us about how sacred ?freedom of contract? is. They?re the 
ones with the power to decide what your choices are going to be. It?s a completely unequal 
bargaining position.
 
They will tell you that this is a coincidence. Or that those who own money and property 
got it through hard work and cleverness. We?ve now seen how the property developers and 
the bankers got their money and it had nothing to do with their own hard work and less to 
do with brains.
 
They got it from people like us who wanted a home to live in. The top 10% of Americans own 
90% of the wealth. Ireland?s not far behind. In other words, they own the houses we need 
to rent and the money we need to buy them. If you?re in the 90%, the only choices you have 
are those the 10% choose to give you. That?s no coincidence.
 
Real freedom means having a say in the decisions that affect your life. You have no real 
say in whether or not you?ll have a job tomorrow. You have no real say in how you get 
somewhere to live. If you lose your job because of an economy that you can?t control then 
you have no control over whether or not you also lose your home.
 
The ones who do have control of your choices were the ones who were cheerleading the 
property bubble up in the first place. Now they?re blaming the workers who followed their 
advice. The wealthy are playing an old game but we don?t need to fall for their 
distraction tactics. The only way we will get control of our lives back is if we refuse to 
take the bait by turning on each other.

People power is a "empowerment" group. Empowerment is an English word which comes to mean 
awareness of a power that everyone has . It is a power based on the struggle and dignity . 
This is a community " empowerment " as a result of a determined struggle awareness 
achieved . This awareness creates an expectation of new struggles (and we think it will 
also be possible victory) . When joining several fights , with victories or historical 
example , in one movement ( movement or community ) we can speak of a community that has 
generated popular power. ---- Origin ---- In recent years there has been claiming the 
"people power" in various Latin American anarchist movements . Groups is generally linked 
to the libertarian communist current (known as platformists or especifistas ) present in 
many countries, and curiously absent from traditional Iberian anarchism .
 
It is a concept "import" of Latin American Marxism of the 60s and 70s of the twentieth 
century . At that time Marxism in its various facets ( Guevara , Trotskyist , Leninist or 
until Allende 's socialism ) spoke about building a social base tending to socialism. In 
this construction of socialism was talk of people power . The Uruguayan Anarchist 
Federation ( FAU ) and other Argentine groups accepted the term and were integrated into 
the political agenda .
 
The FAU managed to survive the Uruguayan dictatorship (1973-1985) , and the 80 was 
virtually the only American continent anarchist group [1 ] . In the 90s , slowly , begins 
to resurface in various American anarchism, and by then the FAU already had a certain 
social and political background , so it could influence the anarchist political formation 
of several groups of different countries.
 
In recent years is when this development has accelerated generating great libertarian 
organizations as Libertarian Communist Federation ( Santiago de Chile) , the Libertarian 
Students Front (Chile and Argentina ) , the Coordinator or Brazilian Anarchist 
Revolutionary Anarchist Federation of Venezuela [2 ] . These groups and many other 
anarchists do not take the position on the FAU called people power .

future socialist society .
 
The people can be empowered through social struggles, but also for the construction of

of small-scale self contribute to the idea that large-scale self-management is possible 
(ie , the socialization of the means of production : socialism ) . When you combine a 
general politicization in society, with a series of victories that have encouraged people 
to try to go further, with a few self-managed projects show the way , then this collective 
power can be truly revolutionary and held power its holders .
 
It would also have to say that it is a cumulative process. This means that each victory 
will help to achieve the ultimate goal . Every fight becomes an accumulation of 
experience, political training , debates , campaigns that benefit the objective. With 
watching the fights will go clear what political forces contribute to empower the people 
and which hinder it and deviate from your goals.
 
Examples Iberian
 
To understand a little better the concepts of building popular power will set an example 
that is not usually associated with these terms. The Asturian Revolution of 1934, which 
was a process of accumulation of forces of the proletariat Spaniard . It was a process of 
years, who through strikes , boycotts , expropriations , miners and native and foreign 
workers who were waking up to the year 1934 in which all experienced class contradictions 
led to the general strike October revolutionary .
 
The Asturian proletarians had been a whole year full of sharp class conflict which 
witnessed numerous gunfights , partial strikes and insurrections small locally , 
generating an atmosphere of widespread resistance . You could tell that people had lost 
respect for authority, which openly challenged daily, and as the occasion had imposed the 
power of the working class, as in the strike of Gij?n ( September 1934 ) , government bans 
skipping the daily Progress ( Asturian socialist diary favoring the idea of social 
revolution ) or by riots in prisons with inmates who had just armed and large leaks. All 
this in the midst of a widespread weapon of the working class (only in that year there is 
talk that the Asturian workers bought guns 10,000 salary , not to mention the numerous 
thefts of weapons in armories or seizure of dynamite in the mines) . The process that led 
to the Asturian Revolution is a powerful example of how a whole town built grassroots power .
 
What may cost us more to understand is that this power popular Asturias was supported by 
different political actors left ( anarchists , Anarchists , Socialists, Communists and 
Marxists from left ) each in their own way , but all add up . It is therefore remarkable 
that most likely involving some 30,000 people from a working population of about 120,000 , 
which indicates the amount of movement . [3]
 
Role of the Anarchists
 
Traditionally there has been debate within the libertarian movement on how to approach the 
process leading to social revolution (or libertarian communism ) . On one side are those 
who advocate a strong libertarian movement , numerous and well trained to " lead " people 
to the revolution and to convene insurrections and strikes to get it . On the other hand 
also have many anarchists who advocate a libertarian organized so people are aware that 
the community , being large is necessarily plural , and therefore seeks to contribute to 
the set with the methods of the anarchists , but within that people in struggle . For this 
sector, the role of an anarchist organization would be to bring together the different 
members involved in social movements to provide them with coordination and policy 
coherence own for your goals.
 
In the Iberian anarchism , however , anarcho-syndicalism has always prevailed as an 
organizational form of libertarian activism . Unions have always been seen as the backbone 
of all anarchism , with the remaining libertarian organizations in support of ( and often 
subject to ) mass unions .
 
Somehow in many Latin American communities struggling to breathe some of this popular 
power ( Zapatista communities , indigenous people, the MST in Brazil , Oaxaca , 
venezonalas communities , Chilean populations , etc. . ) . When in one of these 
communities have the impression of being in a totally different from ours, governed by 
other rules. Not to say that anarchist communities are involved , they are places where 
"the people in charge." Although some community of this society resembles anarchism 
proposed by even the current libertarian movement has not achieved enough influence on 
people's movements so that communities struggle has inspired libertarian communism . It is 
precisely now when anarchism again heading for a new world .

vor wenigen Monaten wurde bei mir ein frühes Stadium der Demenz diagnostiziert. Kürzlich habe ich die Behandlung im Krankenhaus begonnen. Nach Gesprächen mit meinen Ärzten und meiner Familie habe ich mich entschieden Brüssel zu verlassen und in meine Heimatstadt zurück zu kehren.

SN Brussels Airlines raid in a closed centre

 Some detainees have told us that SN Airlines Agents ‘paid a visit’ to a few detainees in a closed centre on September 3rd 2013.

They asked to see the file of several Africans to be deported soon and who had already been submitted to one or several deportation attempts. To their request, the social assistant of the centre gave them the files of the people they wanted to meet.

Hence, employees of SN Brussels Airlines could have an interview with these people: they told them that the airline proposed that the person to be deported collaborates and lets him/herself be deported without escort, and in return the airline would give him/her 250 euros upon arrival in the country of destination.

According to our interlocutor, this kind of deal had already been previously proposed to other people by the airline at the airport at the time of the deportation. When arriving in the country of destination, still according to testimonies, they never got the sum proposed.

As a reminder, a polemic had sparked off following a press release by Belga:

‘The police’s annual budget for forced repatriations has already been almost entirely used’
‘Reacting  to the information published this Monday morning by De Standaard and  Het Nieuwsblad, the Secretary of State for Asylum and Migration, ‘Maggie  De Block asserts that ‘the budget of the Foreigners Office allocated to  repatriations in case of forced returns is still sufficient. The issue  of escorts by the police for these repatriations will be dealt with in  the coming days with the political wing concerned’.
