In 2012, a first class hotel Campanile Suresnes (Hauts-de-Seine) is paralyzed by a strike
of the maids , supported by the CGT and CNT. During the 28 days of the conflict, Denis
Gheerbrant dance looks, listens to sing and talk. His film was strike, tells the story of
a collective force, and its impact on the lives of these women mostly African recently
arrived in France and often illiterate. ---- In recent years, a protest movement, for
better wages and better working conditions, is developed among the maids of French
hospitality. ---- A successful step in this movement, the strike in 2012, twenty of them
in Suresnes, in a First Class Hotel Campanile, was filmed by Denis Gheerbrant. This is a
strike, in many respects, was exemplary by the conjunction of a relevant trade union
strategy and determination of the strikers. Between the small company union, CGT HPE
(Hotels prestige and economic), supported by the CNT cleaning [ 1 ], and these women,
African majority, recently arrived in France and often illiterate, the division of roles
was particularly effective.
During the 28 days of the conflict, Denis Gheerbrant dance looks, listens to sing and talk.
We strike allows us to know them better, give them faces, to understand sketches of lives
... The viewer observes how the group is, how this collective action turns one and other,
and wondered, in the end, what this type of fight carries the seeds.
For if this learning and introduction to the political moment is part of a genuine trade
union dynamics, the film Denis Gheerbrant pose too hollow, the issue of male-female or
black-white relations in this new class working.
