New study finds religious congregations are more accepting of gays

Overall acceptance of gays and lesbians in American religious congregations rose significantly between 2006 and 2012, but it declined in Catholic congregations, according to a new survey. Duke University’s National Congregations Study, derived from interviews with representatives of 1,331 American congregations, was released Thursday.

Wisconsin judges grant adoptions by same-sex couples

MADISON, Wis. — At least two Dane County, Wis., judges have granted adoptions by same-sex couples, thereby recognizing their marriages. In the latest case Wednesday, Kat Riley adopted the 2-year-old biological daughter of her partner, Teresa Riley. And, Teresa Riley adopted her spouse's 4-year-old biological son. The Rileys were married in Iowa last year.

Catholic League bowing out of NYC St. Patrick’s Day parade

NEW YORK -- The Catholic League says it will sit out next year's St. Patrick's Day Parade in New York because parade organizers aren't letting an anti-abortion group march. Bill Donohue heads the Catholic League, a group that fights prejudice against the church.
