Anarchists news & events from Irelands WSM‏

 Hello friends ,

Welcome to our latest Anarchist News & Events from the WSM.  The middle of summer is normally a quiet enough time but there are a few things going on of importance and below you’ll find links to some of the recent more popular material we’ve published

We are coming to the end of our New members and Supporters program we have been running over the summer.  We are going to have a island wide met up of those involved and the incoming members on August 20th.  If there is sufficient interest we could run a crash course for additional people interested in joining that morning, allowing those people also get involved at that point.  If that would interest you let us know at activity@wsm.ie

Recently published popular video, audio and writings
As you are probably aware we publish material first to our Workers Solidarity page http://www.facebook.com/WorkersSolidarityMovement  .  We also curate tweets to our WSMireland account http://twitter.com/wsmireland, so particularly on international stories you’ll find lots of information there that we don’t have the resources to turn into articles.  Right now there is a lot of material on the Turkish coup and on the Rojava revolution.

This is a good point to remind you that you can really help us by sharing these posts and helping us reach a much bigger audience.

For the last couple of years the WSM website www.wsm.ie has been used to archive stories after they are published.  Often they are copied over in batches a week or more after appearing on Facebook.  This is mostly a question of limited resources, in ideal circumstances we’d have enough members to always gave editors available to copy these over as published.

Increasingly we are also publishing video to Facebook which gets archived in our Youtube account at much higher quality http://www.youtube.com/user/WSMireland.  Last weekend we recorded a very interesting Irish Housing Network  seminar on the land grabs happening on 3 major areas of Dublin at the moment as part of the housing crisis.   Our Youtube has now had 171,000 views and almost 600 people have subscribed to it.

As an experiment after the very successful July 2nd Belfast Rally for Choice we prepared a 14 minute video documentary using footage from the day, interviews and some of the speeches.  This is archived on Youtube at http://youtu.be/UntdeVgUyao and we’d be curious what you think about us doing similar mini-docs in future.

Along similar lines one of our members produced a critique of this years Pride in Dublin

Finally we also updated our anti-racism playlist with video from the Dublin #Blacklivesmatter solidarity protest

It’s been fairly quiet on the Audio only this month but our one new posting was very successful.  Some 365 people have listened to our recording of ‘Errico Maletesta ideas on anarchism in Ten Words - talk by author Davide Turcato’ - thats more that 10 times the number of people that could fit into our office to hear Davide in person.

There are a lot of other stories on our website from this period - here are links to some of the most popular ones

Forthcoming Events
We don’t produce this frequently enough to advertise most events and in particular in Dublin we often have meetings in our office which only holds 30 and so only advertise those to people who have told us they are interested in that topic.  To be sure of getting specific email notifications about such events check what you’ve told us you are interested in at www.wsm.ie/user

In particular if you have moved towns recently make sure you location is up to date as we obviously don’t send emails to people in Cork about meetings in Belfast etc.

Grangegorman squat eviction
The massive Grangegorman squat complex is once more due to be evicted.  A court injunction is ordering the people living there to live by August 10th or face imprisonment.  They say “So over the next few weeks, we'll be having lots of events and activities, starting with Words in the Warehouse on Saturday the 30th ( http://www.facebook.com/events/940137426115610/ ) . And we'll be having a massive party starting the weekend before the injunction date, that's the weekend of the 6th and 7th of August.”  To get updates follow http://www.facebook.com/resistgg

Anti-internment march in Belfast
There is a national anti-internment demonstration in Belfast on the 7th August.  The Dublin Anarchist Black Cross along with the Workers Solidarity Movement would like to extend an invitation to you to attend this years March against Internment in Belfast as part of an Anarchist Bloc. This is the first year Anarchists will have an organised presence at the annual March which attracts crowds of thousands.
Assembly will be at the Busy Bee in Andersonstown at 11AM

Bus from Dublin for the anti-internment march
Dublin Anarchist Black Cross plan on organizing a mini bus to Belfast from Dublin for this event if there is sufficient interest. Please reply ASAP if you would like a space on the bus as we will need to pre-book places.

5th Annual March for Choice in Dublin
Dublin’s annual March for Choice organised by the Abortion Rights Campaign takes place on September 24th http://www.facebook.com/events/1733115056947687 .  We are considering calling an anarchist bloc for the march, would that interest you?

Saoirse Jin are holding a ‘International Day of Action Against Feminicide-Dublin’ on 3rd August, see http://www.facebook.com/events/559350834267805/

Get regular event notification by email
We are open to advertising events from other groups and in fact run Facebook groups in Dublin and Belfast for just that purpose
http://www.facebook.com/groups/radical.dublin/ now has 1041 people on it, to submit an event just post it there.  The Saoirse Jin event listed above has been taken from that group os if the timing is right events posted there may also make it into this newsletters
http://www.facebook.com/groups/radical.belfast is a more recent initiative but hopefully it will reach a similar see to the Dublin group over time

That’s all for this issue. Till next time..
