Editor's Note: The author visited two anarchist rural projects in Russia and decided that they did not suit him. In this text, the criticism
looks quite constructive, but any assessment is always a personal assessment. Avtonom welcomes almost any libertarian undertakings, and even
more so serious ones, such as attempts to establish rural settlements in Russia, guided by anarchist principles. ---- I quit the spring of
2019. I could not make another compromise and get a new job, because I suffered from emotional burnout. This is the main diagnosis of our
time, which boils down to a simple formula - too much work and too much stress. A radical response to an unhealthy situation was the
decision to move to a village, which was still considered a otium by the Hellenes, unlike the city where they do business (negotium). I love
nature and camping romance, and the environmental camps in the forests of Europe have shaped me as an anarchist. The wife has warm feelings
for the village, because there her grandparents took care. In addition, it was necessary to somehow solve the housing problem, since we had
a baby.

In a political sense, moving to a village meant a return to a self-governing agricultural community - that is, to the old anarchist ideal,
or even, in a sense, rewilding - witty neologism from the dictionary of anarcho-primitivists. Although I never lived in a village, I wanted
to re-establish a relationship with it, which, as it seemed to me, was always strong among our predecessors. No wonder Makhno built his
freemen in the village and hated the city.

After losing in the rat race, I wanted anarchy here and now. Therefore, the first thing I went to Skvoshino. Then we went with the whole
family to the Krasnodar Territory, where we spent several months. I will give this place the provisional name Rapture, as the comrades asked
not to reveal toponyms. We made these trips with a difference of a month, so I will talk immediately about both teams.

The village opposes the city
After the campaign in defense of the student Vsevolod Ostapov (it took place in Moscow in the late 2000s: the cops beat several anarchists
and tried, as usual, to present the case as if on the contrary, people attacked the cops - approx. "Autonomy")a group of anarchists became
disillusioned with urban activism and came up with the idea that "if society remains the same, then we need to propose a really functioning
progressive model of a different social unit." There were a series of unsuccessful attempts to establish autonomous zones along Hakim Bey in
Moscow and St. Petersburg - activists squatted houses for demolition and formed communes, however, groups were evicted or fell apart under
the pressure of external circumstances. Then the group decided to "reproduce the model of an ideal non-hierarchical small community in rural
areas", where the power of the state and business is not so strong.

The trigger for moving to the village was the growing up of activists and the birth of children. The latter factor is rarely given due
attention in anarchist literature, although this is one of the most important reasons why people leave the movement. Children and activism
are poorly combined - parents can no longer risk being imprisoned or injured, which is why they devote all their free time to household chores.

In the city, children grow up inside a nuclear family, the borders of which are outlined by the walls of the apartment. In the countryside,
there are much more opportunities for libertarian upbringing initiatives when not the parents, but the whole team are engaged in the
children. However, the attempt to form a commune in Skvoshino with common property and common children failed.

The choice of a place to settle is an essential success factor, but Skvoshino was founded by chance. In 2008, in the Pskov region,
anarchists discovered an empty house on the border with Estonia and seized it. A wave of immigrants came, few remained, the rest returned to
the cities. Squashino started as a squat - in the Pskov region there are many abandoned farms whose owners have long gone abroad and
abandoned their homes. These are easy targets for capture, but difficult for legalization and communication - attempts to connect to the
power grid were stopped by the authorities, so in one of the houses we had to install solar panels. For several years, the number of members
of the collective has grown, it has become crowded in one house, so activists took the nearest land and gradually bought them.

Now Skvoshino is a whole system of farms where several dozen people live permanently, and temporarily - the same number. Two houses were
allocated for guests, one of which was built from scratch by the staff. Despite the fragmentation of the farmsteads, the collective spirit
and the need for self-determination were clearly expressed in Skvoshino - the Communards even kept journals where they recorded the results
of meetings held according to all anarchist rules. However, this did not save the team from internal conflicts.

The village surrounds the city
One of the founders of Skvoshino left for the Krasnodar Territory, where in 2014 anarchists from Moscow settled. Delight was formed, which
was the result of a conscious search - here the conditions for farming are much better. However, Enthusiasm does not position itself as an
anarchist project. In general, he is poorly defined in the collective representation - now these are just a few families who moved from
different Russian cities and bought houses in one village.

The delight was created by the comrades who participated in the development of the Russian movement in the 2000s. It was a heyday, after
which the crisis came. Departure to the village was an existential response to the resulting emptiness and a point of application of forces.
The problem is that under the pressure of capitalism and time, the political views of the leftists begin to drift, and they geographically
and ideologically no longer associate themselves with the movement, of which they were once a part.

Anarchists are represented in the community, relations are built on egalitarian principles, but there is no ideology, since here it was lost
against the backdrop of a village new age. Veganism, yoga, meditation, Chinese tea, magic, paganism, Hinduism, astrology, signs, folk
medicine - the most different directions of mysticism and esotericism in the village only flourish. Former urban residents are trying to
construct for themselves a new reality and fill it with myths as opposed to an excessively rational life in megacities. Only if the new age
in the city is perceived normally due to general insanity, then in the village it becomes general insanity. It is noteworthy that the Hare
Krishnas became neighbors of Rapture, and the Anastasians became Skvoshino.

In both cases, we managed to build excellent relations with the locals. Due to a more active life position, the settlers successfully
integrated into the existing rural way of life and even took a central position in the existing communities. In the district everyone knows
that you can always turn to newcomers from the city for help - they will never refuse. Migrants, in turn, turn to the indigenous for advice
on farming and environmental information - something that can not be found on the Internet and books. In Skvoshino, an unexpected alliance
with representatives of the Seto people grew out of this communication. Rapture holds general children's events in the village - holidays,
fairs, summer camps - using elements of the Montessori system and the Waldorf school.

The village captures the city
Joint production activities are an essential indicator of the viability of libertarian projects. Both teams have already embodied many ideas
- collectively and on egalitarian principles - first of all, we are talking about low-rise construction. At the same time, the members of
the collectives are not economically dependent on each other and continue to conduct private farming, that is, in the village everyone earns
as much as he can. Usually, immigrants turn into rentiers and rent out real estate in the city, freelancers or carry village goods to the
city. There is little common property - it is conventionally considered squatted real estate and several units of agricultural machinery and
machine tools.

In other words, rural communism is still very far away. Now both teams are trying to earn money for all participants and at the same time
not slide into a regular business: that is, organize a business without bosses, exploitation, an 8-hour working day and other city pleasures.

In Skvoshino, this is the Commonwealth of Izborsk Masters, in the framework of which farm goods - cheeses, bread, hempseed oil - and
handicrafts, such as wooden toys and ceramic dishes, are cooperatively sold to the city. Until recently, the beautiful Krivé beer was an
important product, but in the fall of 2019, the brewery burned down. Since Skvoshino is a system of farms remote from each other, the
production base is distributed across different lands, that is, bread is baked in one place and beer is brewed in another. This is a
small-scale production with a large share of manual labor, therefore, in general, the project brings a small profit to the participants of
the cooperative. The plans include expanding the assortment of the umbrella brand and increasing sales at thematic fairs and through social
networks.

In the summer of 2019, Delight launched a large construction project, within the framework of which the first order was successfully
completed. I managed to attend a meeting of its participants, where it was discussed how the earned money will be distributed depending on
the amount of labor contributed. The problem is to calculate the fair cost of construction work, which differ in the nature of labor -
physical complexity, requirements for employee qualifications, creativity. This is the initial stage through which all groups trying to
organize a "leftist business" go through. In my opinion, Delight has excellent chances to become the new Zanon factory.

Neither to the village, nor to the city
I spent a couple of weeks in Squoshino and a couple of months in Delight. It was a very interesting experience, which I still comprehend -
all these strange people, their stories and customs. Here live the guys who were too cool for the city or crazy enough to get to the
village. Here gathered those who can afford to finally fall out of the social hierarchy.

Skvoshino means squatting on stone farms, beer and old comrades, the gloomy Baltic fleur and the weather is worse than in Moscow. There is
more collectivism. Suitable for tired Petersburg punks who are ready to heat the stove more often than seven months a year. Delight - these
are tourist houses made of mud and sticks, fruits and nuts, a secluded corner of the sunny Krasnodar Territory. There is more individualism.
Suitable for hippies from all over Russia.

But I am an ordinary city dweller who wanted to escape to the village from capitalism and hide his family there. I was hoping to meet a team
of like-minded people there - something that I read about the European commune Niederkaufungen, where you transfer your property in exchange
for group protection. However, immigrants continue to reproduce urban everyday life with a clear separation of households. Of course, in the
countryside there are qualitatively more horizontal ties, disinterested mutual assistance, and generally more anarchy, but the economic
system remains the same. Such is rural capitalism with jeeps and mobile Internet.

Libertarian communities in a village have much more perspectives than in a city. Anarchist ruleization can develop into full-fledged
autonomous zones, like the Free territory of Makhno. The network of village communes is a solution to the housing problems of activists, a
material and production base, the upbringing of a new generation of libertarians, an environmental barrier to the destructive path of
capitalism. But if activists lose the ideological foundation of their activity, then moving to the village loses all meaning - you can
suffer from capitalism in a city apartment with heating.

time in 1916 in Volné listy and which we included in the booklet Kácha in memoriam , published in January 2018 in the publishing house
Anarchist Federation. ---- Our pioneers ---- When a note was sent to Serbia after a shot in Sarajevo, we immediately said that our boys in
the Czech Republic would "take it". And first of all, we were worried about my friend Michal Kácha, the guy with the golden heart. We knew
he would be arrested. So we were ready for everything. However, we did not expect the ortel to be so cruel. The twenty-year prison, to which
Míša, as tiny as we called Kácha, is condemned, means for him a gradual, but in his precarious state of health, cruel and certain death.
In Kácha, the Czech anarchist movement loses one of its best people. Although he was not a writer, he did not bring any new directions or
ideas to our movement, for example. St. K. Neumann, but did more for the movement than anyone else. Especially in recent years he was also
the soul and conscience of the whole Czech movement. And if the era of Neumann's New Cult will always be remembered as a great era of the
Czech anarchist movement, the era of Kácha's work in Job and in Zadru will be and must be recorded  in the  same way. Neumann devoted the
most beautiful movement to our movement, but only a part of his life, Kácha devoted the whole life to the movement. The enthusiasm that
reached Neumann, Sramek and others and then slowly cooled, did not leave Kacha even in the most oppressive times of his life. True, he
complained sometimes and even wrote to me in January 1911: "I decided to slash with Zádruhy's editorial office on February 2 . I will not
wait to see if the movement will cause remedies or not, because I know when they can cancel downhill resolutions, so that even the movement
will not correct it. After all, the movement is such an abstract quantity with no responsibility, because it is so multifaceted or quite
formless. "So he wrote to me at a time when Gregory was already flirting with the national socialists and as the" publisher "of Zruha, he
gave Kácha his power.

As I have already mentioned, Neumann devoted a beautiful period of his life to Czech anarchism, but Kácha sacrificed to the movement
everything that, by its rare character, was so striking: his whole sincere soul, enthusiasm and resilient nature. And that is exactly the
difference between him and Neumann. Neumann was an anarchist poet and Kácha was a beautiful, living anarchist poem himself. There was a poet
and here the poem itself. There were beautiful subduing words and a simple, quite human and sincere heart.

A special personality was this good boy Misha. He had been looked upon with agony once. And it was mainly in the times of Vohryzek. I myself
was one of those because I stood with a number of other friends under the direct influence of Vohryzek. Kácha knew about it and even from
America I exchanged with Kácha several sharp depreciation in the "affairs" of Vohryzek. I knew Vohryzek much better than Kácha, I met him
every day and I appreciated him for his special organizational activities. Times have changed, however, and it turned out that this "prague"
was more agile than Vohryzek. This "prague", despite all the accusations and reverberations he received from various of our variables, was
steadfast and always stood first and never complained. And when he ever wanted to complain, he felt that he didn't mean it and that he was
almost willing to transmit his thoughts to paper. At least that was my impression when he wrote to me in December 1912: "Believe, now you
can feel yourself alone. There are few people, and even fewer, who not only understand, but who can also feel! "- So he wrote at the

We told him he was fanatical. Not that we want to ironize him, but because we respect him too much. That is why we did not understand that
despite all the misunderstandings and attacks, they still stand firm and adamant. It was simply what Kácha seemed great to us; and that was
his "enthusiasm." - "I'm a boy to Thomas, because I've put my fingers in the wounds so many times," he writes once, "but I would like to
start working again."

His work will always be counted as the best Czech anarchist revue paper after the New Cult . With the help of several young and enthusiastic
people, Kácha published a letter, which the movement of our movement felt bitterly. Kacha later worked equally well and successfully in
Zadruza and the  Young Pioneer , but there was no longer Work, and Kacha himself was dissatisfied with it. He wrote to me prior to the
publication of Young Pioneer: "I would like to publish it in a revue form once a month, but when there is so much need for an agitation
certificate."

As a journalist, Kácha excelled in a good observation. Although his journalistic activity is not extensive, it would deserve a special
article to be appreciated only slightly wider. But I do not want to follow the winged phrase - "better little judgment than none" - and
therefore I make a suggestion: that a load of Loose Sheets should be issued with a selection of his articles. I know that Loose Sheets could
not carry out this business, but perhaps some friends could make voluntary contributions. The importance of Kácha's person for the Czech
anarchist movement and its tragic fate fully deserves it.

Some friends may say that Kácha was no "great" and that all his greatness was in his editorial work. But who knew Kacha, and who mainly knew
his enthusiasm and tenacity at work, his courage to say at any time whatever he thought would say that Kacha was a great and pure character
and that he would always be remembered with respect in the history of our movement.

In the first series of BunkerTalks, Kurdish activists located in the Netherlands are going to give a talk about the revolution led by
Kurdish forces that was enabled through the civil war in Syria. More important than ever Rojava, although under serious threat due to
Turkey's invasion, still offers an alternative to islamism, nationalism and neoliberalism in the Middle East. In an interactive talk session
we are going to look into the history of Rojava, the concept of democratic confederalism and the current situation in Rojava after the
Turkish intervention. ---- During the night we do not accept racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, ableism. If you experience this or
feel uncomfortable in any way, don't be afraid to talk to any of the Bunker staff. No pictures!

 From December 28-30, 2019, the XXVII IWA Congress took place in Melbourne, Australia. This was the first time an IWA Congress took place in
this region and we felt that it was significant as sought to reaffirm of committment to international struggle. This Congress we marked our
expansion into the Asia-Pacific region with new Sections admitted from Indonesia (PPAS), Bangladesh (BASF) and a new Friend organization,
the Libertarian Solidarity Front from India. A third new Section was the OLS from Sweden who changed their status from Friends. Likewise,
ULET from Colombia wants to do so but unfortunately their application was too late but this will be treated at the earliest opportunity. We
welcome all the new comrades to the IWA and hope that we will continue to branch out in the coming years.

The Congress worked 3 full days but did not manage to get to some important discussions. These fill have to be continued at the next Plenary
session, which will take place in Slovakia in June 2021. The Sections discussed a number of important issues, including coordinated
international actions against unpaid salaries and labor exploitation and how to improve the discussion and process between Sections. A
decision was made to increase our publishing work and plans are being made for the IWA Centenary, which will take place in 2022. In that
year, the Centenary Congress will take place in Spain.

Many Sections also distribued activity reports prior to and during the Congress, pointing out various workplace struggles and other
activities. We had planned to speak more about these at the Congress but time did not permit us but we all received copies of the Sections'
reports. Almost all the Sections and Friends took part in this important Congress, anarchosyndicalists from Australia, Austria, Bangladesh,
Brazil, Columbia, France, India, Indonesia, Norway, Poland, Russia, Serbia, Slovakia, Spain, Sweden and the UK, with observers from
Australia and Aotearoa present as well. We received formal greetings from Friends, anarchosyndicalist and anarchist organizations from
Australia, Chile, USA, Iraq, Kurdistan and Turkey with more greetings rolling in during the Congress.

Despite the many matters to deal with, some which proved to be complicated, the Congress ran smoothly and was very comradely. The
participants consider it a big success that our International is taking real steps to shift its base and to go into areas where it never had
a presence. We look forward to a long a fruitful relationship with new comrades and the development of anarchosyndicalist in more and more
countries around the world!

Long live anarchosyndicalism!
