In December 2008, the country was shaken by the largest, most intense and lasting
uprising in its modern history. For weeks, the entire city centers danced to therhythms of the uprising, with its radiation penetrating neighborhoods andneighborhoods and enticing the pupils and students who from the first days werethrown and starred in the uprising. The impact of the events had internationalforce and occupied Greece for a long time, with the following months beingaccompanied by almost daily arson attacks on state and capitalist targets.No matter how many years pass since December 2008, we do not know if it will bepossible for the narration of the events from our texts to escape. The assembliesusually feed the authors with different axes and the agreed direction for thepublication of a text tends to be centered in December today. The memory,however, always slips and finally succeeds and is imposed. In the early years thememories were fresh, the enthusiasm may have overshadowed the politicalevaluation and it was clearly pouring into the writing which acquired aparticularly narrative and literary character. Now the turn of the social andclass struggle with the negative correlations and the great retreat of theresistances, brings the memories of an uprising automatically to the militantthought, which today thirsts for renewal and rebellious vitality.It is true that it is not possible to talk about December 2008 without gettinginto the heart of the events, to experience them again wandering in the then. Itis impossible not to travel to the burned state and capitalist buildings, to thehit ATs, to the occupations and demonstrations of those days. Let us not thinkabout what happened to an entire generation that was troubled, politicized andradicalized based on the events of '08, but did not become "the generation ofoverthrow". And of course we will never stop remembering the murdered student andanarchist comrade Alexandros Grigoropoulos, we will not stop thinking about howold he would be today, our anger over the uniformed garbage that shot him and themurderous system that armed him guards its sovereignty.At the same time, we can not let empirical-emotional thought transcend thepolitical reading of events and an entire historical period, nor can the feelingof a rebellious melancholy set aside logic. We are not striving for a momentaryadrenaline rush and we are not anarchists because we are reactionary skeptics. Werejoice in the uprisings and struggles of the working class and the youth, yet westudy their limits and weaknesses. Our struggle is a revolutionary struggle andis not aimed at temporary outbursts of rage - which the forces of the system havethe power to assimilate - but at how just popular rage will be expressed in a waythat paves the way for a revolutionary overthrow of capitalism and state.The uprising of 2008 was the best that could have happened at the time itmanifested itself and with the given - before and during - organization, powerand infrastructure that the anarchist movement had, which as today, so then, wasnot united. It was a spontaneous outburst without political mediation thatliberated creativity from the insurgent masses and at the same time revealed thelimits of informal action that, having no plan, purpose and strategic horizon, isdoomed to complete its cycle without producing a practical result. The uprisingof 2008 confirmed that the popular protest does not need guardianship to hit theenemy but also that in order to overcome its self-limiting character, it istransformed from social and class resistance into an action of revolutionaryoverthrow. it must have both organization and revolutionary goals. Thedialectical relationship "between the revolutionary idea and the popularinstinct" needs to be developed.A posteriori discussion of how an uprising could have been in the past withoutthe existence of an organized movement at the time is futile. The December 2008uprising remains historically unjust, did not pave the way for a revolutionaryperspective, did not change society and could not have been done otherwise. Thatwas not her destination and her mission to discuss "what went wrong". It was aspontaneous uprising, fair, creative, hopeful but not aimed at overthrowing theregime. It did not expand into the core of social production, it did not createrevolutionary conditions. Instead we can in the here and now devise a strategyfor how we will be prepared for the uprisings and resistances of the present andthe future. Not to expect a repeat of events of the past, which, in addition tobeing historical nonsense, is also the equivalent of political despair. But tomethodically organize the social and class counterattack, a libertarianrevolutionary movement and a modern anarchist program of revolutionary overthrowand reconstruction of society on other bases.13 years later the causes are here, they are before us. The global capitalistcrisis that entered dynamically in Greece after the uprising in the form of thedebt crisis continues to shape the historical context of our time which is notcharacterized by "the end of the crisis" and the "post-memorandum transition" butby the further its sharpening. At the altar of the profitability of the few,attacks on the world of work and the poor masses deepen and the path of classplunder and social enslavement is paved by state authoritarianism: sometimescrude and universal, sometimes more careful and targeted, but always murderous,anti-human, anti-human and class, necessary for the supremacy of capitalism andthe state in social and class war.But this war will continue until our final victory. And December 6th is a momentof this war, a day of remembrance and struggle for Alexis and all our dead anddead.
