 This work, although old, is precious: it tells us the history of the extreme

right in France from the Liberation until the years 2008. The extreme right : the
plural signifies the first project of this book, which aims to show that to speak
of the extreme right in the singular is inaccurate, the reality being in no way
unique and homogeneous. Once the phenomenon has been circumscribed, the author
retraces the paths of these movements, their contradictions and internal
heartbreaks. ---- The extreme right form an indeterminate, incoherent, difficult
to define whole. There are many differences between fundamentalist Catholics and
militants claiming pagan cults, between monarchists, regionalists, Bonapartists,
supporters of a strong state, fascists and those nostalgic for the Third Reich.

These numerous ideological oppositions should irremediably separate its members
and this happened regularly internally, but the fact remains that their ideas are
strongly inscribed in the political landscape. This is perhaps the most
formidable thing: the trivialization of a body of detestable ideas.

Starting from the period of the purge after the Liberation, the author travels
through the years 1944-1968, where the Algerian war is fully present and serves
as a core and ferment for new organizations. Then, between 1969 and 1974, it was
the time of ideological reconstruction, marked by violent activism. The splits
follow one another in a climate of violence, external and internal. The years
1974-2008 are very important in the process of unification of the extreme right.
This is the moment of the rise of the National Front, which consecrates its
central place. "Since 1973, the splits, the recompositions have been made with
reference to the FN, which has played a dual role of attraction and repulsion.»

The analysis of the links between the parliamentary right and the extreme right
shows that the porosity of the right to extreme right ideas is nothing new. The
question of the relevance of being part of electoral logics for anti-democratic
parties and denouncing parliamentarianism regularly resurfaces within these
formations.

This book, illustrated with various propaganda posters and fanzine covers,
invites you on a strange and sordid journey through the nauseous meanders of
these worlds. By following the convulsions of the self-proclaimed leaders who
make and break the small groups that compose them, insulting each other and
reviling their former companions, the book allows us to avoid a certain number of
errors due to approximations and semantic confusions. The abundance of acronyms
sometimes obscures understanding, but following all of these movements with their
compositions, decompositions, recompositions is not easy work.
