A new transphobic controversy hits family planning and threatens our reproductive
and sexual rights to all. ---- Since August 18, family planning, a structureguaranteeing access to sexual and reproductive rights, has been the victim of anextremely violent reactionary attack on Twitter and other social networks.Following the publication of a poster showing a pregnant trans man, the far rightand its sympathizers are calling for the cutting of family planning subsidies andquestioning its legitimacy, a matter now covered in the media. Why such acontroversy for a simple poster promoting access to family planning resources foreveryone ?We are struck once again by the rapprochement between the Terfs(Trans-exclusionary radical feminists : transphobic " feminists ") and the mostclassic extreme right like the RN or the residues of Reconquest. It is nocoincidence that transgender people, marginalized and whose rights are still toolittle recognized in France, are the target of this new controversy.The existence of transgender people of course obsesses a large part of the right,but family planning is not only attacked because it supports the rights andaccess to care for these people. In France, anti-choice associations, fightingagainst the right and access to abortion and contraception, are aware that themajority is opposed to their project. Thus, instead of attacking head-on, theyseek to cut by all means the subsidies essential to the effective maintenance ofthese rights. The work of popular education in family planning and interventionsin schools for education in sexual and affective life are a priority target ofthe Catholic right in France.TERFS: PAWNS OF THE FAR RIGHTTheir strategy is clear, to create a moral panic to bring a majority to supporttheir anti-abortion project or at least to remain silent in the face of thisthreat. It is also a question of rallying a part of former feminists, withtransphobic positions, with their anti-family planning voices and thereforeultimately to fight against reproductive rights in the broad sense. Alreadysuccessfully implemented in the United States and the United Kingdom, thisstrategy has made it possible to advance anti-feminist and LGBTIphobic projectsthere.The Terfs, by claiming that family planning would no longer defend cis women, areplaying into the hands of the far right, which seeks to eliminate the Frenchassociation for the defense of access to abortion even though this right has justto be questioned in the United States. Through this alliance, they endanger notonly transgender men but also all people whose rights are defended by familyplanning.This controversy reminds us that the far right, in addition to being racist andan ally of capital, remains the enemy of women and LGBTI people.
