Members of the OAF supported the protest action that took place on November 11 in
front of the Polish consulate in Ostrava. We bring you a short report. ---- As wealready wrote in the invitation, the protest action of Ostrava PRAJD, localAmnesty and others was called on the occasion of the traditional IndependenceDay, when Catholics march together with neo-Nazis in Poland every year. The eventfollowed last year's protest against the state murder of a young woman, whichpaid for conservative anti-abortion legislation. ---- This year - evenconsidering the organizing groups - the protest was considerably calmer. The OAFmembers respected the wishes of the organizing team and refrained from morevisually or noise-intensive methods of protest, but the event nevertheless lackedlast year's urgency. After a longer gathering in front of the consulate andpainting protest signs with chalk on the sidewalk, some participants boughtcharity socks, and after hanging (and then carefully removing) pickets on theconsulate fence, a crowd of about 100 people marched towards Masaryk Square.The chanting of slogans such as "Fuck PiS", "The whole Ova screams with us, fuckthe fascists" or "Anti-capitalist" was accompanied by one smaller flare, whileone of the secret police immediately ran up and began to explain to the activistthat disturbing this peaceful event with pyrotechnics would not be appropriate.An apology could almost be offered to the residents of Ostrava for disruptingFriday's early evening with profanity and shouting.Despite the rather symbolic impact, we consider the event to be meaningful.
