Some other items of note:- OK, back to the news: 89 public housing buildings earned an A grade for energy efficiency in 2021 — and even NYCHA officials couldn’t believe it. It turns out, THE CITY’s reporting has revealed, it was too good to be true.
- The city’s guinea pig market is not long for this world. The City Council banned sales of the furry rodents yesterday following a massive influx of abandoned animals in city shelters. Lawmakers hope to encourage adoption, instead.
- In this week’s episode of FAQ NYC, Christina Greer and special guest host Ben Max of Gotham Gazette break down New York City’s financial hurdles, the delayed Albany budget, and Gov. Kathy Hochul’s recent nomination for the state’s chief judge. Listen here.

- New Yorkers have until May 31 to submit the names of loved ones to MISSING THEM, THE CITY’s COVID-19 memorial project: Send a note to memorial@thecity.nyc. May 31 is also the last day to see the MISSING THEM photo exhibit in The Bronx and Queens.

THE KICKER: Happy belated birthday to Mr. Met, who turned 61 yesterday. Officially, the MLB marks his birthday on the date of the first-ever Mets game: April 11, 1962. But the baseball-headed mascot didn’t really debut until May 31, 1964, when the first person to don the costume, Dan Reilly, took the field at Shea Stadium. “I shook hands, posed for pictures, signed autographs. After that, I got cocky and started dancing. It was an instant hit,” he recalled to a Mets blog in 2010.
