After 54 years of the Stonewall Uprising, the memory and legacy of struggle is
still alive. Direct response to police repression, the revolt boostedinternational repercussions in the class struggle for sexual and genderliberation. ---- We have seen around the world political-cultural annihilation ofdissident people of gender and sexuality. It is necessary to combat these forces,as well as collective solutions to guarantee the right to live fully and withdignity - the right to housing, employability, education, health -, in additionto the right to love and live with sexual freedom. Socially produced prejudicesand hatred and the absence of public policies, supported by the State andcapitalist exploitation, intensify the curtailment of basic rights to the LGBT+community, especially when it comes to black and poorer non-cisgender people. TheStonewall Uprising, on June 28, 1969, in New York, led by trans, racializedpeople, in precarious jobs, was a milestone of confrontation and advancement instruggles for rights. Other experiences were added to it, in the most differentcorners of the world and with different natures; such as Levante do Ferro's Bar,on August 19, 1983, in São Paulo, starring Brazilian lesbians and supported byfeminist groups, an episode of reaffirmation of existences. Because they do notsocially correspond to standards referenced in heteronormativity, binarity andcisnormativity, LGBT+ people have historically been confronted, stigmatized andmarginalized by those who hold power, which occurs in different ways - bycapitalist, racist, legal, bureaucratic, biomedical, cisgender and heteronormativity.The State, when it is not the direct agent of violence against LGBT+ people, isnegligent and also insufficient in implementing policies that serve them.Far-right attacks have resulted in many forms of violence of an institutionalnature, including LGBTphobic attacks within Congress by right-wing politicians,extreme right-wing politicians and conservative benches and defenders of the"family" - the same one that denies, rejects and abandons, with prominentreligious politicians. If the LGBT+ population was already suffering fromviolence and lack of rights, between 2019 and 2022, the escalation of persecutionand hunting for rights, as well as the crusade to bar bills benefiting the LGBT+population and promote PLs at the national level that attack any their right,have grown substantially.The actions of neo-Nazi groups are undersized and the space for violent actionsagainst vulnerable populations has grown alarmingly. Social networks and theiralgorithms also collude with groups that incite hatred and dehumanization ofLGBT+ people. The trans population, especially trans women and transvestites, inaddition to being systematically morally attacked, also suffers from the absenceof social protection - whether in the family of origin, in educationalinstitutions, or in job possibilities and in other ways. contexts.Brazil is the country that most murders LGBT+ people, for the fourth consecutiveyear (1). In 2022, one LGBT+ person was murdered every 32 hours (1). This extremeviolence can be much greater, since underreporting is a reality, due to theneglect, as we said, of the State in relation to social groups that aresystematically oppressed and erased in our country. It is a historical violencethat goes back to colonization.At the beginning of the 16th century, the Manueline Ordinances established thedeath penalty at the stake for people who committed the sin of sodomy - "so thattheir body has no memory" - and decreed the confiscation of goods in favor of thePortuguese Crown and the disqualification of the convict's children andgrandchildren (2). From the archives of the First Visitation of the Inquisitionin Brazil, we know the trajectory of Xica Manicongo (3), currently known as thefirst transvestite in the history of Brazil. Born in the Congo and brought toBrazil as a slave, she was accused of the crime of sodomy, which was notrestricted to what we now understand as homosexuality or transgenderism - anypractice considered "nefarious" (in inquisitorial terms) was classified in thesodomitic category. , such as oral or anal sex between men and women, evenbetween married couples.With the rise of the far right, this violence has intensified even more.According to data from the Notifiable Diseases Information System (SINAN), of theMinistry of Health, systematized in the Atlas of Violence 2022, violence againsthomosexuals increased by 5% from 2018 to 2019; violence against bisexualsincreased by 37.1%. The year 2023 has been no different. According to datapublished in May 2023 on the website of the "Observatório de Mortes e Violênciascontra LBGTI+ no Brasil", the first four months of this year already register 80murders of LGBT people. Hateful practices and PLs against LGBT rights remainconstant.The State and its shift governments do not guarantee real conditions for LGBTlives, on the contrary, they have fed a structure of oppression. Only theorganization for the struggle brings an effective response! Violence againstpeople who dissident gender and sexuality norms can present different tricks anddimensions, in different contexts-territories, being inseparable from otherstruggles. As we move forward in collective articulation, we gain strength toface it! Libertarian practices, operating self-management, mutual support andsolidarity, in a federalist and internationalist perspective, lead us to tracebroader paths through which we will advance!
