May 1st, like many other anniversaries, has partially lost the link with the
facts and events that led to it. But as happens with other holidays, May 1st isalso lived with deep participation, becoming in fact a moment of conviviality andreconstruction, albeit momentary, of the community. ---- So even May 1st doesn'tslip away like any other day. ---- For many, yesterday as today, May 1 remains aday of struggle. ---- Day in which workers in the world once again make theirvoices heard against the exploitation and annihilation of freedom, which stillrepresents the characteristics of today's societies in a different guise. ----But May 1st is also a day of celebration, a celebration because no one has givenus this day, neither kings, nor governments, nor parliaments.Celebration because it is the day in which the international proletariatrecognizes itself as a community of solidarity, in which it recognizes that ithas common interests. Party because the values of freedom, equality andsolidarity are positive values, inclusive values and therefore values of joy. This community of solidarity is open to all, it does not create barriers, it hasno racial or religious prejudices, everyone can be recognized within it as longas privileges are abandoned and the cause of freedom and equality is embraced. These values, which are the founding values of anarchism, were those which thoseunion militants of anarchist orientation, leaders of the movement for theeight-hour day, propagated with tenacity and passion. And it was precisely the vast consensus that was determined around these socialagitators in Chicago, the city in which the movement developed, that brought themto the gallows. We want to remember one of these men, Albert Parson who, like the otherssentenced to death, wrote his own autobiography for the "knights of Labor" magazine.Albert's life, through his story, is a little jewel that shows us howmaterialistically proceeds his awareness of the reality that surrounds him. Stilla teenager, at the age of 13 we find him fighting for the confederal states ofthe South, up, through the path of life, to being a brilliant orator andpolitical and union agitator in the ranks of anarchism. Albert is the only NativeAmerican among those convicted of the Haymarket events in Chicago, the otherswere German immigrants. This greatly affected the outcome of the trial. As inother historical moments, and one cannot fail to think of our Sacco and Vanzetti, the class hatred of the capitalists was fed and merged with profound chauvinistsentiments. It is this story, for the first time in Italian, that we have published and thatwe dedicate to all those comrades who are fighting for a perspective of change insociety in which equality is combined with freedom. For requests: ilcantiere@autistici.org printing and shipping fee EUR8.00http://alternativalibertaria.fdca.it/wpAL/blog/2023/05/03/il-cantiere-di-febbraio-2023-2/_________________________________________A - I N F O S N E W S S E R V I C EBy, For, and About AnarchistsSend news reports to A-infos-en mailing listA-infos-en@ainfos.caSPREAD THE INFORMATION
