From August 3 to 6, the first edition of Les Résistantes was held,
meetings around environmental struggles. UCL comrades from variousgroups went there and some of them came together to offer collectivefeedback. ---- Fifty years after the fight against the military campproject, the Larzac plateau hosted on August 3, 4, 5 and 6, the firstedition of the "Résistantes", meetings around local and globalenvironmental struggles. Despite the wind blowing in this emblematicterritory of the peasant and environmentalist struggle, we were a fewcomrades from UCL who responded to the call from Terres de Lutte, thePeasant Confederation, and the GMO volunteer mowers. who organized thesemeetings.We were not the only ones: around 7000 to 7500 participants were, intotal, recorded over these four days. A significant number which did notseem to overwhelm a relatively effective self-managed organization. TheRésistantes organization also showed that real inclusive work had beenundertaken: presence of a mixed camping area chosen without cis men, aself-managed daycare, as well as a monitoring and prevention team sexistand sexual violence can be contacted day and night with an emergencynumber. A quiet space with disabled areas had also been set up.Larzac, light of resistance that has shined in the capitalist nightsince 1973.Such an event was for us and for all the participants an opportunity todiscover or rediscover the plurality of environmental struggles and thediversity of global and local issues that they cover. We were able todiscuss peasantry and social food security by thinking about how to workand distribute agricultural production differently. We were able to talkabout land management, land grabbing, the fight in Larzac in the 70s.But we were also able to address other subjects at the crossroads ofbroader issues such as municipalism, associative, self-management, thelink with institutions.One thing is certain, it is that the Resistants have succeeded inoffering a real space of convergence to the main actors of theenvironmental struggle of all scales. The list of collectives,associations and unions that joined the initiative and held their standin the association village would be long. We will still mention, amongothers, the presence of Solidaires, the CGT, the Uprisings of the Earth,Bassine Non-Merci, and the Confédération paysanne.Such a moment of meeting was then a perfect opportunity for coordinationof numerous local struggles such as the Rout of the roads, the strugglesfor water, against nuclear power, for forests or even against factoryfarms, to come together and 'organize.Thus, during the Earth Uprisings intercommittee meeting, around 68 localcommittees were represented and were able to discuss and prepare for thebig intercommittee meeting weekend which will take place at the end ofSeptember. While the threat of dissolution still loomed, this moment wasof rare intensity in its force in bringing together the determination ofmany, many activists who chose to form an Uprising committee in recentmonths.Workshops, debates, stands and works of art of all kinds...The assessment of such an event is difficult to draw up as it was sorich in lessons. They still offered us the opportunity to revive thememory of past struggles. In particular that of the land which welcomedus: Larzac. Territory which, thanks to the determined struggle of the1970s, saw itself move from a military camp project to the SociétéCollectif des Terres du Larzac (SCTL). That is to say, a collectivemanagement of exploitable land which places the right of use andexploitation above the right of property and thus goes against allcapitalist land speculation.Larzac is today the only French territory in which the number of farmersis not decreasing.
