On Friday May 17th We met at the Porta Nigra at 12:30 to take part in
the climate strike. The fact that around 50 people were there with us
despite the bad weather encouraged us. We then marched through the city
center with a small but combative demonstration. ---- The focus of this
climate strike was on the EU elections and the appeal to vote against
the right, which was clear (but also criticized) in some speeches. Of
course we support this call, but we must also say that the elections,
parties, parliaments and governments can neither save us, stop the shift
to the right, nor achieve a good life for everyone.
The fact that another flood disaster took place on the very day of the
climate strike, again in our area, this time fortunately with fewer
injuries and deaths, shows how important serious climate protection is.
What the flood victims in Saarland need now are not speeches or
bureaucratic aid programs. They need direct, mutual help, like our
comrades from the commune house project. However, we will neither
achieve this help nor sensible climate protection through elections
(alone), but only with a strong movement from below and to the left.
Let's build this movement.
