The election theater is behind us, we continue our activities, our fight
is not over. The election ended in a crushing defeat for all politicians
and parties (even those who won), although they campaigned and made
various promises, the majority of society chose not to participate in
the election! Although we do not yet know the exact results, it is clear
that the turnout in the country will be just over 30%. Five years ago,
it was 28.7% in the Czech Republic and only 23% in Slovakia. Almost 70%
of Slovak voters, which is 2.8 million people out of 4.3 million, gave
up their vote! Their mandate is more than questionable when they only
represent 30% of society!
For political leaders and all those who have ambitions to come to power,
it is a frightening realization how widespread is the distaste for
politicians and political parties, old and new, and distrust of
representative democracy in society.
As anarchists we might cheer, but we don't have much reason to! As long
as people express their disgust with politics only by passively
boycotting elections, they cannot expect any improvement. Nothing will
change and everything will continue as before. The rich will get richer
and most of society will get poorer. Our other rights will gradually be
limited and our standard of living will deteriorate! We will be exposed
to the arrogance of the powerful and make fools of them!
The anarchist movement faces a huge challenge to harness this potential
of the broad masses and to spread the idea of anarchism as much as
possible among ordinary people as an alternative to this social crisis.
To show the path of leaderless anarchist organizing, to help them get
rid of their fear and overcome their current resignation to their fate!
To help ordinary people step by step to gain confidence in their own
strength and to realize that only we can change something with our
activity and be part of a real change!
