It is impossible to deny today the effects of the "coloniality of
power", a concept developed by the Peruvian sociologist Aníbal Quijano.
While in the West the condemnation of Russian aggression against Ukraine
is almost unanimous, showing even the expression of solidarity with the
Gazans is a crime. A perverse equation has been established since the
beginning, last October, of this new sequence of a conflict which has
lasted since 1948, and which equates criticism of the policy of the
State of Israel with the expression of a visceral anti-Semitism.
While we fight over the meaning of words (genocide, massacre, ethnic
cleansing, war crime, crime against humanity, etc.), the dead, mostly
women and children, fuel a macabre count that does not hardly moves here
anymore. Fortunately, from American campuses to Science-Po, young people
are revolting against the active complicity of Western states in a
colonial war that does not speak its name. This youth shows us the way.
Recent events in Kanaky remind us that France is not only complicit in
Israeli colonialism in Palestine, it is itself a colonial power which
puts down the rebellion of the colonized by force. The French State is
the rule of law; outside of him everything is barbarity. Colonialism is
exploitation, theft, violence and the negation of the other. It imposes
a material and symbolic relationship of domination: coloniality. It
ignores the crimes committed in Gaza or the Kanak demands and claims,
alone, to represent (just) law. It is this coloniality that we must
