Gatherings 5/20 and 5/21 ---- On May 21, 2024, the trial of the 9
Egyptian survivors of the Pylos shipwreck has been set at theThree-Member Criminal Appeal Court of Kalamata. The 9 survivors were
arrested less than twenty-four hours after the fatal shipwreck in Pylos
in June 2023, accused of being members of a criminal organization of
traffickers and responsible for causing the shipwreck. More
specifically, on June 14, 2023, a fishing boat carrying more than 700
refugees and migrants with the intention of crossing from Libya to Italy
sank off Pylos. 104 survived the wreck while 80 were recovered dead. The
huge number of missing people in combination with the dead migrants
reveals the extent of the criminal management of the incident by the
Greek state, given that the Greek authorities had been notified several
hours before of the danger in which the passengers of the boat and also
of the the fact that the testimonies of refugees and immigrants who
survived the shipwreck state that the coast guard tried to tow the boat
to remove it from the territorial rescue jurisdiction of the Greek
state, as a result of which it sank and the majority of the passengers
did not have time to get out of the lower levels of the vessel, such as
many mothers with their children. Despite all the testimony, the state
will arrest 9 of the survivors and detain them on a flimsy indictment
based on insufficient evidence. The testimonies of the survivors, who
blame the shipwreck on the port authorities, will never be included in
the case file. The circumstances under which the Coast Guard took the
statements of the 9 survivors will be contested by their lawyers.
Communications, official and unofficial, between services, governor and
operations chamber will not be recorded in the case file and will
essentially disappear. The mobile telephone devices of the rescued were
detached by the Coast Guard and "found" a month and a half later,
"forgotten" on the ship responsible for the towing and the wreck and
were then handed over to the Port Authority of Kythira. Also, the
pre-investigative examination for the wreck will last only two days and
the case file will be submitted to the investigator, who will reject all
the requests of the defense lawyers of the 9 survivors to add evidence
to the case file. It is clear that the state is attempting both to shift
its own criminal responsibilities for the deadly Pylos shipwreck onto
the survivors themselves and to cover up its murderous action by finding
culprits among the downtrodden and the outcasts.
The anti-immigrant and murderous policy of the Greek state and
Europe-fortress is not separated from the murder of the immigrants off
the coast of Pylos. From the signing of the agreement on the extension
of the fence to the Evros by 35 km, in order to further "upgrade" the
armoring of the external borders of Greece and by extension also of
Europe, the illegal pushbacks into the Aegean and the daily drowning of
people, the concentration camps of refugees and immigrants, where people
are piled up and imprisoned in miserable conditions without any freedom
until the police pogroms against them in the cities, the refugees and
immigrants are confronted with the criminal policy of the Greek state,
which aims to prevent entry into the country, taking of course the
choice of killing people who seek a better future than that of war,
poverty and unfreedom. A condition in which thousands are displaced, due
to the wars waged by the planetary bosses in their countries, for the
exploitation of natural resources and the expansion of their sphere of
influence. After all, the condemnation of millions of people to
destitution, poverty, disease and uprooting is the condition for
ensuring the over-accumulation of wealth in the hands of the global
financial elites.
The exploited and the oppressed continue to pay with their blood for the
maintenance and reproduction of the barbaric exploitative oppressive
system that oppresses, murders and impoverishes. This is demonstrated by
the dozens of murders of workers in the factories of modern slavery.
This is amply proven by the thousands of dead due to the criminal
management of the pandemic, the dozens of victims of state capitalist
crime in Tempe, the murdered Roma by the uniformed bastards of ELAS, the
murders of immigrants and refugees at the water and land borders of
Fortress Europe.
Because the perpetuation of the power and profits of the economic and
political bosses goes through the sharpening of the exploitation of the
poor and the plebeians, the plundering of our lives and the silencing
and repression of all who refuse to accept this barbarism as the only
perspective. The brutality where refugees and immigrants will either
drown by the hundreds or be imprisoned in modern concentration camps or
be chased by cops and fascists in the cities, impoverished and excluded
from decent living conditions. The brutality where dozens of people will
be murdered on trains due to the state's murderous policies with the
complete lack of control and maintenance of networks and communication
between trains, or they will die on trolleys or in their homes waiting
for hours for an ambulance to go to a hospital . The brutality where
dozens of workers will never return from their daily wages because their
lives are measured by the bosses and in their calculations it costs less
than the maintenance of a scaffolding. In the world of the state and the
bosses we are all strangers.
Against the bankrupt world of state and capital, against the war that
the rulers have declared on the oppressed of this land, as anarchists,
we fight with our weapons for class and international solidarity between
the peoples, putting forward the organization of the counterattack of
the exploited classes for the overthrowing the world of capitalism and
the state. Together with the locals, immigrants and refugees to fight
collectively and from below against poverty, impoverishment, oppression
and subjugation, to strengthen and guard the social and class
resistances that are the target of repression and to organize new .
Against fascism, intolerance, war, repression and exploitation, the
Cause of global Social Revolution, of building a new society of
equality, solidarity and freedom on the ruins of the world of power...
