With entry into the international market thanks to Deng's post-Maoist
reforms, China grew at double digits throughout the 2000s, until Xi's
1910s and 1920s, which saw a slowdown in growth and consolidation of the
Empire Celeste as a global technological and military power. America,
which together with Europe is the largest market for Made in PRC
exports, from Kissinger onwards supported this growth in an initial
phase, with investments and capital that made China the world's factory.
The pandemic and the war in Ukraine have interrupted this process, while
Biden has maintained the protectionist measures against Chinese trade
introduced by Trump and has recently introduced new ones against Chinese
electric cars and solar panels that are flooding Western markets. While
America leaps forward with leadership in AI, after China had overtaken
it in supercomputing, and the campus revolution travels on the Chinese
social network TikTok, undermining Meta's primacy, the conflict over
Taiwan and the Indo -Pacific and therefore world primacy seems to be
reaching its apogee. The People's Republic has become an air-naval power
that wants to dislodge American aircraft carriers from the seas around
China, and it has become a space power that is preparing to colonize the
south lunar pole and study the dark side of the moon with the
Chang'e-probe 6, but this is not the new cold war, like the USA-USSR one
which opposed two different economic and ideological systems, this is a
war fought on the basis of technological competition and the struggle
for global soft power, between problems of the three bodies, Mulan and
Kung Fu Panda. The one between China and America is therefore a cool
war, a battle over who controls the future and its minds, with the rest
of the world having to decide between American hegemony and growing
Chinese influence, while the African and Asian chessboards are in strong
turmoil and the BRICS act as a counterweight to NATO countries in the
G20. Will the PRC and the USA be able to escape the Thucydides trap that
pushes them into military conflict, or will they establish a bipolar
balance in favor of the prosperity (or salvation) of the world? And how
can Europe help but disappear in the struggle between the two giants and
counter the threat to the eastern border posed by Putin, supported by Xi
Jinping?
