Four Last Generation activists entered the large basin called Molo
Trapezoidale, in the port of Palermo, an example of very bad use of the
precious liquid in the Sicilian capital; while they simulated washing
clothes, they carried with them the banner with the words "Repair Fund",
in support of the campaign for a fund that compensates the victims of
the damage caused by climate change, to be obtained from the extra
profits of fossil companies, from the reduction of military and
politics, salaries for managers.
In the Palermo of mafia murders and gang control, widespread crime,
ever-present corruption, especially in the areas of the Sicilian Region
or the Municipality, the Police Headquarters and Anti-Crime have not
missed such a brazen act of eco-terrorism, giving the three
non-Palermitan students one year's dismissal for one of them, a student
away from home, and three years for the other two.
The motivation of the Palermo "leatherheads" is that the activists could
commit other crimes. Because immersing yourself in a tub is actually an
illegal act reported in all criminology texts. We still remember poor
Anita Ekberg who, for having dared to be immortalized in the film La
Dolce Vita, inside the Trevi Fountain in Rome, had her career ruined,
and the same fate almost befell Federico Fellini.
According to the logic of proportionality we must expect life
imprisonment for drug dealers and the death penalty for robbers. We
don't dare think what is foreseen for the most serious crimes: burning,
slaughter in the square with distribution of the remains in municipal
kennels, perhaps even slaughtering. Minister Piantedosi has certainly
already issued directives in this regard.
