The RN's accession to power would be catastrophic for the rights of
women and LGBTI people. Although the far right, with the RN in the lead,
claims to have renounced some of its traditionalist positions to the
point of monopolizing women's votes and counting in its ranks the
largest contingent of gay elected officials following the elections
legislative elections of 2022, the reality is quite different.
Transphobia, traditional conception of family, opposition to the PMA:
the RN is and remains the mortal enemy of LGBTI people.
In Europe and the European Parliament
Wherever it finds itself in power, the far right implements
discriminatory policies, endangers fundamental freedoms, allowing a
climate of social violence against LGBTI people to take hold. Some of
the achievements of the European far right include for example:
"LGBTI ideology-free" zones in Poland;
Dismantling of parental rights in Italy;
Law banning "the promotion of homosexuality" in Hungary.
Regarding the rights of LGBTI people, RN MEPs:
Voted against or abstained on eight texts aimed at punishing homophobic
crimes in the European Parliament;
Voted against a text calling on member states to ban conversion therapy
in March 2018. Among the 34 French deputies who opposed it were 16 RN
deputies;
Unanimously voted against a text warning about hate speech against LGBTI
people in the European Union in 2019;
Voted unanimously against a resolution denouncing violations of the
rights of LGBTI citizens in Hungary in July 2021;
Voted against a declaration proclaiming the European Union as an LGBTI
freedom zone in March 2021;
Refused to vote for a resolution warning of the increase in homophobic
crimes in the EU after the murder of two men in front of a gay bar in
Bratislava, Slovakia, in October 2022.
At national scale
In the National Assembly, the 89 RN deputies elected in 2022 did not
shine for their support for women and gender minorities.
In July 2023, the National Rally group was the only one to vote against
a bill aimed at strengthening women's access to responsibilities in the
public service. Of the 36 deputies present, 35 voted against and one
elected member abstained;
Also in July 2023, RN deputy Julien Odoul tabled a bill aimed at
prohibiting transgender people from the right to compete in sports
competitions in the category of their gender;
During the vote in Congress on the draft constitutional law enshrining
abortion in the Constitution, the RN was the group which voted the least
for the text: 12 deputies voted against, 20 abstained, and 11 were absent;
In April 2024, RN deputy Joëlle Mélin tabled a bill aimed at prohibiting
trans minors from the right to transition, and her counterparts in the
Senate voted for a similar proposal carried by LR.

Our prides are our struggles
All these achievements are only a foretaste of the policy that the RN
could pursue against LGBTI people. Inspired by its European models such
as Orban or Meloni, the RN will destroy one by one our rights wrested by
the struggle: repeal of marriage and access to PMA for all,
reestablishment of health therapies. conversion, denial of the rights of
trans people, etc. Faced with the existential threat that the far right
represents for all minoritized people, it is more than ever time to
stand up.
Let's organize ourselves, let's mobilize: today as tomorrow, let's live
in anti-fascism and the fight against the extreme right!
