WORLD WORLDWIDE EUROPE GERMAN - news journal UPDATE - (en) Germany, Die Platform - Trier: Speech - Revolutionary May Day in Trier (ca, de, it, pt, tr)[machine translation]

Dear comrades, ---- We live in a time when people here are constantly

talking about war. Hardly a week goes by without some scribbler from
Frankfurt or Berlin swearing that they would either send themselves or
their children to their deaths on the Eastern Front. A time when the
German government is pumping a trillion euros into weapons. A time when
the sacred cow of the black zero is being slaughtered for missiles and
drones. But for all the talk of war, we hear very little about the other
C-words: communism and class struggle.
This is so surprising, especially in our time. In a time when working
people are increasingly being cut off from their jobs. In times of
rising poverty, rising prices, and growing insecurity. All these
achievements that buck this trend were fought for by working people.
Unemployment benefits, the eight-hour day, health insurance, the
weekend! All things that make life better. All things that weren't given
to us, but fought for by our comrades in the past. Against the
resistance of the powerful. No matter how much the narrative of history
is smoothed over. The better life was conquered in the class struggle!

Even today, the class struggle is constantly underway. But not the one
from below, fighting for the good life, but the one from above,
concentrating power in the hands of a few. When some big industrialists
on ARD want the first sick day to be borne by the workers, that's class
warfare from above. When Carsten Linnemann is asked on Deutschlandfunk
why the CDU failed to abolish a public holiday, that's class warfare
from above. When there's talk of raising the retirement age, cutting
unemployment benefits, and making health insurance worse, that's all
class warfare from above. And when our government appoints the chairman
of Media Markt as Minister of Digital Affairs and BlackRock Merz, with
his private jet, as Chancellor, that's also class warfare from above.

It's not as if we're not aware of this class struggle. As if we don't
see rising food prices, dilapidated schools, and poorly functioning
public transport. Anyone who has ever tried to leave this city by train
has experienced firsthand what our government is cutting corners on. All
to regularly support Rheinmetall shares. All for the shareholders,
nothing for us.

It doesn't have to be this way. We don't have to live in a world, in a
country, where we only take a beating in the fight but never rebel. We
don't have to lie around helplessly while others decide which major
corporation can distribute tax money to shareholders. It's time to fight
back. It's time to organize. It's time to fight for genuine democratic
distribution, for genuine participation, genuine equality. For a better
life. For a good life for all. It's time to confront the struggle with a
fight! No longer simply as spectators of our own disempowerment, but as
joint fighters for a better world. A world that exists for everyone, not
just the richest! Where we truly work for each other and not for mere
survival. This world is possible. We just have to fight for it.
