pay for defenseless populations.

Under the rubble of Gaza there are also the world's democracies whose
hypocrisy is equal only to their cynicism. For 18 months they looked the
other way, pretending not to see the carnage, but continuing to fuel it
with the sale of weapons to the state of Israel, with commercial
exchanges, with the purchase of technologies and above all by providing
moral and political cover for the actions of the Nazi-Zionist Israeli
government. Only now are some people starting to bark plaintively at the
Netanyahu government, talking about the exaggerations of his army in the
Strip, blathering about anti-Semitism and continuing to brand only Hamas
as terrorism. How many more thousands of deaths will it take to also
define the clerical-fascist government of Israel as terrorist?

And none of these democratic governments, starting with the Italian one,
intends to stop supplying weapons to the Israeli army. No one has
stopped defining the State of Israel as a democracy wedged into a
geographical area of monarchies and dictatorships. Israel continues to
enjoy the privileges of a European state overseas, even in sports or
singing competitions it continues to participate like any other country
in Europe. Here it is not just a question of guilt for the Holocaust but
of an interconnection of complicity that makes European democracies
co-responsible for the failure to resolve the Palestinian question and
for the genocide taking place today as a final solution. Alongside them,
of course, are the United States, and then the Arab states, the first to
have subjected the Palestinian cause to their economic and financial
interests.

Along with the daily bulletin of horrors, we now witness the spread of
the bulletin of declarations, both functional to the objective of wiping
out Gaza and completing the occupation of the West Bank, but at the same
time indispensable to keep public opinion clinging to the thread of hope
for a diplomatic solution, a ceasefire agreement. For those who do not
believe this fiction, here are the fascist laws of the Italian
government, Trump's ethnic-political cleansing of universities, the
repression of protests everywhere, the defamatory accusation of
anti-Semitism leveled at solidarity movements.

What is happening is what states and governments have always been
masters at: acting as firefighters but pouring gasoline on the fire. At
this moment, Western diplomacies in particular are above all trying to
save their face and their asses from the increasingly strong protests
that are flaring up everywhere. It is a dirty game that serves the
interests of the Israeli state.

Cynicism, double-dealing, are part of the art of governing. Let us not
forget that it was the Israeli government that financed the
fundamentalist movement of Hamas to split the secular Palestinian
society, to bankrupt the Palestinian National Authority (relegated to
the increasingly smaller Bantustans of the West Bank) in impotence and
corruption, and to ensure a "terrorist" enemy indispensable to justify
the permanent state of war, the militarization of society, the growing
power of religious extremism. Didn't the same thing happen with Al
Qaeda, raised by the CIA, or with the Taliban used in an anti-Soviet
function?

Today more than ever it is necessary to take note of the unreformability
of democratic regimes: they also created that rubble, and it is
consistent with the social butcheries that they impose on the working
classes and the less well-off in general. Given the level of human and
material destruction taking place in Gaza, no one today should have
qualms about respecting the so-called democratic rules; the
mobilizations that are spreading with growing anger throughout the
country - just to stay in Italy - have the moral obligation to break
down the banks of bourgeois legality, a necessary step, with plenty of
room for imagination, to face a conflict minimally adequate to the daily
extermination in Gaza and help stop it.
