Dear New Yorkers,

NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch is slated to have imminent discussions with incoming mayor Zohran Mamdani about whether and how she can stay put in her current role.

Keeping her is one of the most high-profile statements Mamdani made during the close of his winning campaign. But it’s not clear if Tisch would accept — or under what terms.

One looming issue: Mamdani has said he supports expanding the Civilian Complaint Review Board’s authority over NYPD disciplinary matters.

A disciplinary case THE CITY wrote about earlier this week is an early test over whether or not Tisch and Mamdani can find common enough ground on that matter — and elsewhere.

Wednesday the stakes escalated, as dozens of city elected officials called on the police commissioner to move that case forward, despite a ruling by a deputy commissioner that the CCRB doesn’t have jurisdiction.

Brooklyn District Attorney Eric Gonzalez is backing a bid to re-sentence a prominent counselor in the Hasidic Jewish community who was originally sentenced to 103 years in prison for repeatedly abusing an adolescent girl. But the move to support leniency for the counselor, Nechemya Weberman, has alarmed advocates for abuse survivors as the long-running case returns to court next month. The United States Tennis Association sued NYC on Wednesday, accusing the Adams administration of violating the terms of its lease on the National Tennis Center in order to aid Mets owner Steve Cohen in his plans for a nearby Queens casino. That agreement stipulates that all third parties “are subject and subordinate in all respects to the rights of the USTA National Tennis Center.”

THE KICKER: People don’t want to just volunteer for mayor-elect Mamdani, they also want to work for him. Since opening a job portal to build his team, he’s already received over 50,000 applications.
