Preface
When I was contacted by Luc about a year ago about his autobiography, I could not immediately have known where this would lead. In the meantime, some time and many consultation moments later, you have his life story in your hands. He asked me, as chairman of drop-in center “De Kolibrie”, to write a foreword. Despite the fact that I am rarely at a loss for words, it was still a matter of deliberation for me as to what I wanted to convey without revealing too much.
“The Pink Rebel” is the profound life story of a 65-year-old man who has navigated the most challenging waters and discovered himself in the turbulent currents of life. This applies both to the acceptance of his own sexual orientation and to the medical challenges that came his way. He chose a path that was not always smooth sailing and that often deviated from the norm.A path that may even have been too controversial for some. He was/is an activist and dares to color outside the lines. In this autobiography he takes us on his life journey, in which he candidly talks about his experiences, feelings, thoughts and dreams. He shows us how he discovered and developed himself,how he fought and enjoyed, how he loved and lost, how he learned and grew. He shows how he confronted his own demons and walked his own unique path.
The specificity of an autobiography is of course also that one looks back on life and that everyone's life story is colored by their own experiences, which may or may not be based on what actually happened, or perhaps even more on how events are framed and framed over the years. be experienced. This does not make an autobiography less valuable or truthful, but rather more authentic and personal. After all, it is the narrator's subjective experience that counts, not the objective facts.
I hope you will be touched and fascinated by this book. It is a book that invites you to reflect on your own life, your own choices, your own challenges and your own possibilities. I therefore invite you to read the afterword after your journey through Luc's story.
